Training workshops for NGOs, community-based organizations and community leaders involved in rehabilitation have been organized at the state, district and village level covering issues of shelter reconstruction, health and sanitation, planning and decision-making at the village level, improved techniques of agriculture, gender issues.
Exposure tours: Farmers, cattle breeders, entrepreneurs, village leaders, teachers, men and women from villages of Surendranagar and Rajkot were taken to institutions, demonstration projects to orient them on approaches and technology that could be utilized in their villages.

 Man kills wife, two daughters
In a second gruesome incident in Gujarat in less than a week, a man has allegedly hacked his wife and two minor daughters to death and later tried to kill himself in Susvaav village of Surendranagar district, the police said on Tuesday.
He was taken to Surendranagar Civil Hospital, where his condition is critical.

SURENDRANAGAR: Trade and industry circles in Saurashtra, after having been denied a 'fair share' in the quake rehabilitation measures, have decided to raise the demand for a separate state of Saurashtra and Kutch.
Jobanputra, who is also a Congress leader, told 'The Times of India' recently that he had dispatched letters to "people who matter" in Saurashtra and had been receiving a positive response.
Jobanputra claimed at least two prominent leaders of Surendranagar district, Congress committee president Jitubhai Bhatt and Congress MP from Surendranagar Savsibhai Makwana, had backed his idea of a separate state.

 Bhaskarpura project may end water woes of Saurashtra
RAJKOT, OCT 27: Narmada water will flow into the parched north-western districts of Saurashtra in about one and a half years if the Bhaskarpura project, which promises to permanently solve the water woes of the region, is completed on time.
The Bhaskarpura scheme will benefit 31 urban centres and 1,345 villages in Rajkot, Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Kutch districts which were not included in the original Sardar Sarovar Project.
Chief Executive Engineer of Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Saurashtra Circle) G J Ruparelia says the blueprint of the scheme is ready and tenders will be floated in November.
