Surrey Quays is a name given to a largely residential area of Rotherhithe in south-east London, occupied until 1970 by the Surrey Commercial Docks.
The Surrey Quays area acquired its current name in 1989 when the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre was built on the infilled southern part of Canada Water and the nearby London Underground station was renamed.
The nearest London Underground stations are the eponymous Surrey Quays (previously Surrey Docks) on the East London Line and Canada Water on the Jubilee Line.

Surrey Quays has various transport options open to you for travelling around London; firstly there is the London Underground with Rotherhithe and Surrey QuaysStations both running the East London Line (Shoreditch through to New Cross).
Surrey Commercial Docks first opened officially back in 1697, its main function was the import and export of timber; yet it had already received a certain amount of notability, prior to this, due to the Pilgrim Fathers infamous trip to America on the Mayflower back in 1620.
Surrey Commercial Docks were officially closed back in 1969, due to lack of trade.

Route 70 was introduced in 1951 as a replacement for tram route 70 and ran daily between Greenwich Church and London Bridge via Deptford, Surrey Docks Station, Rotherhithe and Bermondsey, extended on Mondays to Saturdays to Waterloo Station via Southwark Street and Stamford Street.
In 1991 the route was withdrawn completely between Blackheath and Woolwich, and later that year was rerouted at Catford to run between West Croydon and Lewisham, with an extension to Surrey Quays Shopping Centre during Saturday shopping hours.
In 1994 it was withdrawn between Lewisham and Surrey Quays, settling to running at all times between West Croydon and Lewisham only.
