In an attempt to attract clubs from outside the county, the Surrey Senior League was renamed the Home Counties League in 1978-79.
In 1981-82 the league was split into East and West sections, with Ash United beating Malden Town in the play-off.
The Combined Counties league reached an agreement to become a feeder league for the Isthmian League, whilst at the bottom end of the league, arrangements had been made to accept clubs from the Surrey Premier at the expense of the bottom club.

The Senior league will be played in two zones with return matches with the zone winners receiving $50,000 each, the runners-up $25,000 each, and after a play-off for the Challenge Trophy, the winners will collect $100,000.
In the Super League, $12,500 will be available for every victory, $5,000 for every first innings lead and at the end of the competition, $10,000 each will go to the player with most runs, most wickets, most catches (fielder), most dismissals (wicketkeeper) and to the top allrounder.
The teams were placed in the leagues based on last season's performance and the top six from the Surrey Senior Cup, the top two from the Middlesex Senior Cup and the top two from the Cornwall Senior Cup were placed in the Super League and the rest, along with KSCA, in the Senior League.

In 1910 Sutton assumed senior status and joined the Southern Suburban League, and it was during the next decade that the club gained use of their present home in Gander Green Lane.
League form was more uncertain, and in 1926 U's had to seek re-election, but were successful and recovered to win the championship just two years later.
With centre forward Charlie Vaughan scoring 68 goals, 42 in the league, they were champions for a second time as well as winning a first Surrey Senior Cup and also featuring for the first time in the FA Cup 1st round proper, although Walthamstow inflicted a heavy defeat.

 History
In 1925-26, they were winners of the Surrey Senior League and again in 1926-27, also in the same season they were winners of the Surrey Senior League Charity Cup beating Egham Town 1-0.
The Corinthian League was started in 1945 with 8 clubs, who, having competed on equal terms with Isthmian and Athenian League sides during the war, did not wish to return to the inferior London or Spartan Leagues.
The club never rose from the foot of the Athenian League, and a meeting was held in February to decide if the club should continue, they were not re-elected to the Athenian League at the end of the season.

 Walton Casuals Football Club
The Stags began life at Elm Grove Recreation Ground and in the Surrey Intermediate (Central) League, finishing runners-up in the Premier Division on three occasions prior to moving to the Western Section in 1965, where they spent three years before joining the newly-formed Surrey Senior League in 1968.
Despite reaching the Surrey Premier Cup final in 1987, a slow decline set in, arrested only by a decision to switch across the non-league pyramid to the Surrey Senior League in 1992.
Floodlights were installed in 1998 and 2000 saw their first honour as a senior side, when they lifted the CCL Challenge Cup beating Viking Greenford 4-2.

 HISTORY
The Surrey County F.A. was formed in 1877 playing representative games against Kent, Middlesex etc. At a meeting in Guildford on 16 March 1882 it was reorganised and voted to affiliate to the Football Association and at the same time a County Senior Cup competition.
The first winners of the Surrey Senior Cup were Reigate Priory who were victorious six times before the end of the century.Other successfull teams in the early days were Guys Hospital, Weybridge, West Croydon and Townley Park.
A Surrey Senior League did not begin until 1922 - 23 when 11 clubs were invited into the league - Aldershot Institute Albion, Camberley and Yorktown, Carshalton Athletic, Dorking,Egham, Farnham United Breweries, Hersham, Leyland Motors, Merton Town, RAE (Farnborough) and Walton on Thames.

In 1971 however, the club was forced to change grounds and lost their place in the Surrey Senior League as a consequence, briefly dropping into the Aldershot League.
In 1978/79 the Surrey Senior League became the Home Counties League, and was renamed the Combined Counties League in 1979/80.
The well-kept ground is undeniably one of the better in the Combined Counties League, and was improved considerably by the addition of a 100 seat stand in the winter of 2003 with the aid of Football Foundation funding.

What is certain is that as founder members of the Surrey Senior League EGHAM F.C. were the inaugural winners of the Champions Pennant, which heralded a period of great local success.
Their overall strength in the Spartan led to elevation to the Athenian League, the Second Division of which was won at the first time of asking in season 1974-5.
With the League authorities demanding higher standards for club facilities, Ron Povey, the incumbent chairman, took the long-term view that emphasis on developing the club would serve it better than short-term gain on the field.

In the Senior League the teams are as follows: Zone A - Clarendon, St. James, Police, Trelawny, Manchester, and Hanover; Zone B - Boys' Town, Tivoli, St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas and St. Mary.
Senior League, Zone A - St. James versus Police at Jarrett Park, Hanover against Clarendon at Elgin Town, Trelawny versus Manchester at Elletson Wakeland; Zone B - Kingston and St. Andrew versus Portland at Maxfield Park, St. Mary against Boys' Town at Westmoreland Oval, St. Thomas versus Tivoli at Goodyear Oval.
The Super League will see all the teams playing each other in a one round round-robin while in the Senior League it will be two zones of six teams each and return matches with the two winners meeting in a final.

The FA Vase is a football competition for teams playing in lower regional leagues, held annually in England.
In 1974, with many of the top amateur players receiving payment for playing, The Football Association abolished the distinction, scrapped the Amateur Cup and introduced The FA Vase for the majority of clubs who had previously played in the Amateur Cup.
Well over 200 clubs entered in the first season (1974-75) and Hoddesdon Town of the Spartan League beat Epsom and Ewell of the Surrey Senior League 2-1 in the final at Wembley before a 9,000 crowd.

Until the 2004-05 in English football, the Football League Third Division was the third-highest division of The Football League and the fourth-highest division in the overall English football league system.
Before that it was the third division overall, but that ended with the creation of the FA Premier League prior to the start of the 1992-93 in English football.

This change required the club to move from the New Barn Lane School ground which was inadequate for senior football and with a dynamic committee under the leadership of Secretary Dick Baxendine, the club purchased approximately four acres of farmland in nearby Church Road, where the club still play today.
In the 1970s the floodlight training area and stand were built and in 1975, after seventeen happy years with the Surrey Senior League, the club moved into the London Spartan League, where the best they achieved was third place on two occasions in the six years of their membership.
In 1981 the club joined the Athenian League and it was at about this time in the early 80s that the main pitch floodlights were installed and the dressing rooms were moved to a new location on the top bank enabling the clubhouse to be extended.

They became League champions in 1947/48 and 1948/49, following which they joined the Surrey Senior League.
The As remained members of the Surrey Senior league until the end of the 1964/65 season, winning the League Champions title on six occassions in 1950/51, 1951/52, 1952/53, 1953/54, 1956/57 and 1964/65.
After the Surrey Senior League, Banstead Athletic became members of the Spartan League, (1965/75), the London-Spartan League, (1975/79) and the Athenian League (1979/84).

Not until 1905 did Mill Lane Mission form a Senior side and officially register Mill Lane Mission Football Club with the Surrey FA at the end of the Summer of 1905, (and it is this date (1905) which the club adopts as it's Official birthday).
Two League Championship's and victories in various local and Surrey cup competitions were achieved and in 1922-23 the Robins became founder members of the Surrey Senior League.
Athletic were elected to the Athenian League in 1956-57, a year later they reached the Surrey Senior Cup Final for the first time losing 1-0 to Dulwich Hamlet.

It was back in 1958 that the club last enjoyed a major honour when they won the Surrey Senior League just five years after their formation.
Whilst they have sampled life in the Isthmian Premier Division it was all too brief and the club have ambitions to climb the pyramid once again and hopefully return to the Premier Division and maybe beyond.
This was also the season in which the club made its' only foray into the 1st round proper of the FA Cup but they were beaten here by Bath City after a glorious run.

The Surrey FA have granted permission for a collection to be made for him this afternoon.
He started his senior football career when he joined the Metropolitan Police Force and was right half in their side that won the Spartan League Championship in 1938/39, Herts and Middx League 1939/40, South Eastern Combination League 1940/41.
During his period of service he signed for Eastbourne in the Corinthian League, playing several times for them, he was also on the Spurs books as an amateur in 1952 but strangely he did not play one game in their colours.

It was not until the early 1920's that the club moved to their present location in Weldon Way, although it is believed that for a period around 1911 the club occupied a ground at "The Weir" adjacent to the existing Merstham Cricket ground.
Although unable to win the league again, Merstham continued to play in the Surrey Intermediate league until they gained senior status in 1964 and joined the Surrey Senior League.
It was decided that the travelling involved in the Spartan League was far too arduous and the club duly returned to the reformed Surrey Senior League, now known as the Combined Counties League.

After the wartime interruption, Cobham became league champions in 1948/9, narrowly missing a double by finishing runners-up in the League Cup final.
More recently, Cobham were founder members of the Combined Counties League, moving up from the now defunct Surrey Senior League, although they have yet to win the title.
The league has had various sponsored titles over the years but recently retained the original along with the sponsor's title.

As the seniors prepared for their event they were heartened to see a resounding victory in the Youth’s race by our YA Captain Dale Seddon.
There were no surprises in the men’s race as all the teams in the top half of the competition ended the day in their expected positions.
Eleven of our senior runners made it to the start line but the Belles set the pattern for the afternoon by placing fourth with two runners having to drop out during the event – both of these proceedings being uncannily matched by the men’s squad a couple of hours later.

For many years the Surrey County Football Association has been aware that numerous people have given their time to the game of football within the county.
Unfortunately, until now, the Surrey F.A. were not able to reward those people as their rules only allowed recognition to be paid to county officials and club officers.
It will be presented to Barry Kimber for his outstanding services to football in Surrey, having served Woking for 28 years, Lion Sports F.C. for five years and as physio to the Surrey Senior League Representative X1 for many years.

 Horley Town
In 1903 another local club by the name of Gatwick Rovers was formed and the two clubs merged in 1908 with Horley retaining its name.
The land has been held in trust since 1947 for the people of Horley in memory of those that died in the defence of their country, and the ground was appropriately named “The Defence”.
The club went on to compete in The London Spartan League and The Athenian League before returning to the Combined Counties League (formerly The Surrey Senior League).
