  Surtur (comics) Information
Surtur is a fictional character, a demonic entity appearing in the Marvel Comics universe.
Surtur is depicted by Marvel Comics as an immense and malevolent being whose power is of apocalyptic proportions (he is the equivalent of Surtr in Norse mythology).
Surtur finally met his end when he and Odin killed each other during Ragnarok.

Enchantress (Marvel Comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Enchantress — also known as Amora — is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe.
It was during Simonson's run as well that we were introduced to Amora's sister Lorelei, and it was estabilished that the two sisters had somewhat of a strained relationship, rooted in rivalry.
Soon after the Surtur War, Thor led a number of Asgardian heroes to Hel, the death goddess Hela's realm.

Surtur asks if Thor wants a final earth-shattering battle, but Thor says that he shall not fight today; rather, he has returned to the fire caves to ask Surtur to repair Mjolnir.
Surtur laughs at the notion, but Thor insists that it is fitting for the greatest enemy of the gods to repair the weapon using the very forge that brought about the end times of Ragnarok.
Surtur leads his demons to Vanaheim, crushing all in his path in a final gruesome battle.

My early idea was that the blade belonged to Surtur and it was the blade of myth with which he would fling fire across the Nine Worlds and destroy everything at the ending of Ragnarok.
The blade was a part of Surtur, or at least intimately connected with his power (much like the One Ring is really a part of Sauron).
Surtur has been building up a spell to call the blade to him, a mighty conjuring that he's been working on for millennia.

NEWSARAMA.COM: KEVIN GREVIOUX ON THE HAMMER KID
Long-time Newsarama readers will remember Grevioux from our 2003 interview, profiling the long-time comics fan who was then anticipating the release of his first film, Underworld, which he developed, co-wrote, and acted in (he was the big guy, a lycan, with a (all-natural) voice like it was coming from the bottom of a well).
As Grevioux learned, the move from movies to comics didn’t come with a reduction in effort.
I hear from parents who have school-age kids, who monitor their reading very much, and they seem to have a huge problem with what’s available out there in the way of comics compared to the way it was when they were growing up.

Meanwhile, Thor engaged Surtur at Asgard's gates, and was overwhelmed by the fire-demon.
Thor then did the unthinkable, making a deal with Surtur: in return for the reforging of Mjolnir (he felt it appropriate for Surtur to be the one to remake it), he would blast a clear path for him to Asgard.
It is not associated with Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, Darkhorse Comics and including all those that the author forgot to mention.

How Surtur is foiled, and what happens after the somewhat Lord of the Rings inspired finale (it only needed **** to shout "fly, you fools" to be complete) I'll leave for you to enjoy.
It's true that subsequent chapters feel a little flat after this extended world-shattering story, but these chapters form a necessarily slow-paced set of vignettes in advance of the next couple of storylines, which see Thor descend to Hel, the arrival of Kurse, the death of Balder, and the ascent of....

In his introductory notes, British comics writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, DV8) reveals himself as a diehard fan of the American space program, and loudly laments the tragedy of the space shuttle Columbia and its certain detrimental effect on the future of space exploration.
Whereas the first volume to collect the Victorian-era-ish detective comic Ruse was a refreshing break from and expansion of the staid formulaic approach of traditional adventure comics, its follow-up, The Silent Partner, proves woefully disappointing.

Walter Simonsno - The Odinsword--an earlier story...
The only thought I'll add, just because I think it might be interesting to some folks here, is that the Surtur Saga I told in my run on Thor was originally conceived in part as a history of the Odinsword.
In its beginnings in the THOR comic, the Odinsword (originally called the Oversword I believe) was a big blade sitting around the middle of Asgard.
I drew much of the concluding issue of this story back when I was in art school and a few of those pages are reproduced in BACK ISSUE 4 which has just come out with an interview between me and Joe Casey.

If King Thor's power is indeed on the same level as Odin's, you;d have to go to the likes of Zeus, Galactus and the Celestials to find him a worthy opponent.
Of course, there are always Ymir and Surtur, both of whom Odin respected greatly as opponents.
Again, if I'm not mistaken, Asgard is destined to one day fall during Ragnarok, when the gods are foretold to be overthrown by their giant antagonists, and that would suggest that somewhere out there is an opponent, or a force, which even Odin could not overcome.

Official announcement came today that the comic book publisher that put “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” on the map will get a nod from the US Post Office next year, when DC Comics characters get their own postage stamps, this according to a USPS release listing the various stamp designs coming in 2006.
Linn's also reported that the stamps would be released in conjunction with a major comic convention, most likely indicating the San Diego Comic-Con, July 20-23rd (although some sources are claiming they will have stamps in stock on September 1st, 2006).
While the pane of 20 stamps will be the first for nearly all, it will mark Superman's second time on US postage, as the character was featured in 1998, as one in a series of events that occured in the 1930s.
