As a veteran of Survivor message boards across the 'net, I think it was around Africa when people first started discussing what might happen if players from different seasons competed against one another.
Every other Survivor show had strong bonds between contestants, but then these were still strangers, and each player was against every other player, affecting even the closest of pacts.
But since then, Survivors have crashed at each other's houses, met each other's spouses children and parents, gone out drinking, taken trips together, coordinated on charity projects, discussed relationships, commiserated in being locked down by their Survivor contracts...the whole gamut.

This is the way Survivor: All-Stars ends; not with a bang but a whimper.
Sadly, the moment that drives home how much of a failure the All-Stars experiment has been is the way that the most recent three episodes are recapped in the span of six seconds.
At this moment, Tom comes up with one of the truly great moments in Survivor history as he approaches the couple with his hand extended, saying "no hard feelings." When Rob reaches out to reciprocate, Tom pulls his hand away and says, "Don't be stupid, stupid." It's petty, childish and utterly hilarious.

According to a "tribal tidbit" on CBS's official Survivor site, 10 of the castaways (including all four sole survivors) have been voted out earlier than they were during their first time around.
Or Sandra, that season's sole survivor who hid in the bushes and spied on people like a fourth-grader?) But the real fault lies with the nature of the game; the All-Star version has revealed the original show's inherent flaws (which we didn't notice since we were caught up in the drama).
