Since the past leading to that future was changed, it is unknown whether the two will actually get together.
The character that became Leah Brahms was originally named Navid Daystrom, a descendant of Dr. Richard Daystrom from the TOS episode "The Ultimate Computer." When the writers found out that Gibney had already been hired for the role, the scriptwriters changed the name.
While not impossible, they felt that a proper homage to the TOS Daystrom couldn't be done without an African American actress in the role.
