Her mother died while she was a child, and she was brought up by her aunt, a Mrs Simpson of Thackwood, who sent her niece to the village school at Raughton Head.
Susanna Blamires earliest poem is Written in a Churchyard, on seeing a number of cattle grazing, in imitation of Gray.
Susanna Blamire died in Carlisle on the 5th of April 1794.

Susanna's thwarted love affair with Lord Ossulton is skillfully piecied together from letters and her poems.
I have long been a fan of Susanna Blamire and have restored a number of her songs in recent years.
Susanna never wrote a diary, and apart from the two remarkable collections of original verse manuscripts that have miraculously survived, only three letters and an unpublished prose allegory in manuscript still exist.

Many of Miss Blamire's songs were composed in woodland glades - her favourite resorts for study - while she played an air on the guitar, plaintive or mirthful as the subject might call forth.
Miss Blamire, after suffering much from infirm health, died in Finkle Street, Carlisle, April, 1794, in the forty-seventh year of her age, and was buried in Raughton-head churchyard.

Susanna Blamire, the “muse of Cumberland,” though of English descent and birth, spent much time in Scotland, owing to her elder sister’s marriage to colonel Graham, of Gartmore, and became specially interested in old Scottish songs and airs.
To Johnson’s Museum, she contributed two songs, somewhat in the Scottish style: What ails this heart of Mine, and the better known And Ye shall walk in Silk Attire; and her Nabob is a kind of parody of Auld Lang Syne.

Blamire returns again and again to the theme of change over time; the expectation, doubt, and bewilderment in returning to a place and the wistful disappointment in what has been lost.
Blamire's most substantial poetical effort is her 1,156 line poem, Stocklewath; or, The Cumbrian Village, written sometime after the appearance of Goldsmith's The Deserted Village in 1770.

Miss Susanna Blamire was the youngest child, by his first marriage, of William Blamire, Esquire, of the Oaks, and Isabella Simpson, daughter of George Simpson, Esquire, of Thackwood, and Miss Richmond of High Head Castle, in the county of Cumberland.
Miss Blamire however was singularly fortunate in finding one to watch over her infancy; for, after the death of her mother, she was removed to the care of her aunt Mrs Simpson, the wife of her mother's brother; whose maiden name was Stevenson, of Kettleside, Cumberland; a lady possessed of considerable property.
Miss Blamire's character may be gathered from her writings; her heart flowed with her pen; and the kindly expressions of her well-regulated mind and keen feelings are all undisguisedly exhibited to us as to a friend.
