Sydney Olympic medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe, who almost gave up her athletic career after threats and a confrontation with two fellow Sri Lanka athletes, is to come out of the shell and resume training by this weekend.
Jayasinghe's decision to change her mind and get back to spikes again has been prompted by the latest move of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to take complete care of the 25-year-old celebrated Lankan woman athlete.
Jayasinghe is to be summoned to the Sports Ministry tomorrow and inform her about the Ministry's new move and the findings of the one-man committee report.

Jayasinghe, the first Sri Lankan to win an Olympic medal in 52 years and the only Lankan medallist in the IAAF World Championship history, is the reigning South Asian Games women's 100m champion, but lost the 200m record to compatriot Damayanthi Darsha in Kathmandu, 1999.
Jayasinghe's career best performances were registered in late 2000, where she clocked 11.04 seconds in the women's 100m at the Yokohama Grand Prix in Japan and then returned a timing of 22.28 seconds in the women's 200m final in Sydney, Australia.
Jayasinghe, as the overall captain of the Sri Lanka contingent that takes part in all 20 disciplines of the eight-nation Games, said she is extremely happy to see the unity and harmony that exist in the Sri Lanka athletic team.

Jayasinghe's B sample, which was analysed by the International Amateur Athletics Federation laboratory in Sydney, confirmed the findings of the first test that showed up traces of the banned drug Nandrolene, a statement from the Amateur Athletics Association of Sri Lanka(AAA) said.
Susanthika tested positive for the same substance after winning gold at the Asian championships in Jakarta in 1995, but at that time, Sri Lanka's athletics establishment went all out to prove that it was due to a period-delaying drug she wastaking.

The International Amateur Athletic Association (IAAF) issued a warning to Sri Lanka's sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe that she will be stripped of any medals she wins in the Asian Games unless she is cleared of drug-taking allegations.
The warning follows months of controversy over whether Susanthika, silver medallist in the 200m event at the World Championship, now facing a two-year ban, would be allowed to run at the Bangkok Asiad.
Susanthika failed the drug test (for the steriod nandrolone) in April, was reinstated by the Sri Lanka Amateur Athletics Association, after she convinced the Sri Lanka appeal board on her claim that the failed drug test was orchestrated by national athletics officials bent on wrecking her career.
