  A Look at Susie Cooper
Susie Cooper, along with Clarice Cliff are probably the most significant figures in ceramics design of the Art Deco period.
Susie Cooper was born in 1902 in Staffordshire and joined A.E Gray and Co. Ltd, a Burslem based pottery sepcialising in pottery decoration, in 1922.
In 1940 Susie Coopers influence and work were recognised, and she was given the award of Royal Designer for the industry, and was later awarded an O.B.E. Susie Cooper died on the 28th July 1995 on the Isle of Man. She had a profound effect on ceramics design from the 1920's to the present day.

Susie Cooper was the youngest of the seven children in her family, having three sisters and three brothers.
Susie Cooper's reluctance to recommence production after the War was overcome when her husband, the architect Cecil Barker, joined her in business.
Susie Cooper designs were chosen for the Royal Pavilion at the Festival of Britain, 1951, in addition to being shown in other areas of the Festival displays.

 Susie Cooper - Art Deco Ceramics
Susan Vera Cooper was born near Burslem in the English Potteries on 29th October 1902.
The youngest of seven children she showed an early interest in drawing and painting and attended evening classes at Burslem School of Art where her abilities grew with encouragement from her tutor, ceramic designer Gordon Forsyth, and family.
She was still designing up to her death in 1995 and will always be regarded as one of the greatest pioneers of twentieth century ceramic design.
