The boat access to the lower end of the river at Burma Landing, the public boat launch, is easily road accessible.
The run of Alaska King Salmon on the Little Susitna River is not as heavy as that of the Deshka River so we choose to let them go, in an attempt to reach escapement and build the population back to where it should be.
Though the Talkeetna River King Salmon have a little more color in them than the King Salmon on the Deshka River and Little Susitna River, they are quite a bit larger in size, running consistently in the 40 pound range.

Chulitna River - Because of the cottonwood trees in the area, this river's name means "Tall Trees" and is the most difficult of the four to navigate.
This river is classified as a "braided river" which means the water flow changes often and because of this, the river bed is wide and spread out.

Along the way, the Little Susitna matures from the fast flowing glacial river to being slower and wider with gravel and riffle areas near Wasilla and Houston.
The Little Susitna is home to runs of Alaska’s five salmon species (Coho, Chinook, Sockeye, Chum, and Pink) and its river habitat holds essential spawning grounds.

 2006 Upper Cook Inlet Sockeye Salmon Fishery Forecast - Commercial Fisheries - Alaska Department of Fish and Game
Four models were used to forecast the return of sockeye salmon to UCI in 2006: (1) the relationship between adult returns and spawners, (2) the relationship between adult returns and fry, (3) the relationship between adult returns and smolts, and (4) the relationship between adult returns and siblings.
The return of age 1.3 sockeye salmon to the Kenai River in 2006 was forecast using the fry model.
The fry model has provided more accurate forecasts of age 1.3 sockeye salmon runs to the Kenai River than the sibling model in 5 of the past 9 years, but this year the sibling model forecast of 0.9 million fish was similar to the fry model forecast.

The tower was the third of three that earlier this summer had stood on dry land a safe distance back from the bank of a normally quiet side channel off the Susitna River called Dynamite Slough.
That was before heavy rains throughout August greatly increased the flow of the river, changed its channels and flooded vast areas of lowlands near the point where three Chugach transmission lines cross the river in a remote area on the west side of Cook Inlet.
Chugach carefully monitored the condition of the river and the steady loss of the riverbank that protected the foundation of the third and final tower.

The Talketna river is open and you can launch a boat but the water is muddy from the rain we had the other day.
The Deshka river will not be opening to 2 King salmon per person on the 15th but it should be open around Memorial day.
I have some trips in May and the river is only slightly used during this time frame and there are some really big King salmon caught during this time.
