Topic: Sutherland

Sutherland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name is used also to refer to an administrative county (1890 to 1975), a district of the Highland region (1975 to 1996), a committee area of the Highland unitary authority (1996 to present), a registration county, a lieutenancy area and the Sutherland constituency of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (1708 to 1918).
The Sutherland constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom represented essentially the traditional county from 1708 to 1918.
Sutherland has two main names in the county's indigenous Scottish Gaelic: Cataibh may be used for the whole county, but tended historically to apply to the south east, and Dùthaich MhicAoidh (MacKay Country) which was used for the north west, sometimes referred to as Reay Country in English.

Sutherland, Edwin H. In 1921, Edward C. Hayes, chair of the department of sociology at the University of Illinois and editor of sociology books for the publisher J. Lippincott, invited a professor he had recently hired to write a criminology textbook.
Sutherland (1945) maintained that conviction is important in the study of public agency (or justice system) responses to crime, but it cannot be used in defining the subject matter of criminology, which must explain all forms of law-violating behavior.
Sutherland insisted on the highest level of academic integrity among scholars towards whom he was critical (the Gluecks, Hooton, and Sheldon); the idea that he may have violated these same standards suggests a troubling hypocrisy.
