On this voyage were William Matheson and wife Elizabeth MacKenzie, natives of Sutherlandshire, and a Charles Matheson also said to be of Sutherland.
Sutherlandshire depended greatly upon the military for employment and the resulting pensions.
In July of 1817 Norman MacLeod, a spiritual leader from Assynt, Sutherlandshire, arrived in Pictou with followers from the West Coast of Sutherland.

Walter was born in 1735 in Rogart, an area where the Murray Clan was prominent.
One story related by several family sources was that Walter and Christian left a young married daughter and baby in Scotland when they came to Nova Scotia.
Reverend George Patterson in his 1877 "A History of the County of Pictou Nova Scotia" indicates that the Murrays were from Sutherlandshire.

 Vanuatu, Australia join in weeklong netball tourney
They are involved in a weeklong tournament officially opened by Second Junior Vice-President of Sutherlandshire and one of the VNA’s strong supporter and longtime friend, Leslie Morgan.
She said that was the beginning of the unique relationship between VNA and Sutherlandshire area and from December 1992, they have had two yearly visits from teams in Sutherland and the surrounding areas.
The teams traveling to Vanuatu has helped to develop the skills of the players, and has also helped to improve the VNA facilities, and especially the installation of the lights.

Kintail was the old name of a district in the north-west of Sutherlandshire, which was divided, about the middle of the [eighteenth] century, into the parishes of Tongue and Durness.
The name Kintail -- Gaelic, Cintaille, or Ceanntaile -- is said to mean the head of the two seas -- a description which applies to the Sutherland Kintail as well as to the Ross-shire one.

 The Other One's Thomas Ban ROSS ***
Returned to Sutherlandshire Scotland were he married Isabella (Ross).
His tombstone in the old Presbyterian Cemetery in South Lancaster indicates that Thomas Ban Ross was a native of the parish of Greigh, Sutherlandshire, Scotland, that he was born in 1729 and died in 1806 and that his wife Isabel may have been a Munro.
Although I have not been able to locate what is known as the parish of Greigh, Thomas Taylor Ross has been identified as being a native of Glencalvie, a now barren empty land some distance in from Kincadine, Rosshire located in northern Rosshire close to the border of Sutherland.

This first John McLeod is my direct ancestor from whom I get my surname who lived in Lairg Parish, Sutherlandshire near Dornoch on the Rosshire border.
Hugh came from Assynt Parish, Sutherlandshire on the Hector in July 1773 from Loch Broom and arriving September of that year in Pictou County, NS.
Hugh’s brother Alexander was also a passenger on the Hector.
