One of Sutton's best players, Oli Westbrook, was dropped from the first team and undoubtedly this had a bearing on the result. When in combination at the back, Westbrook and Ward have not played on a losing side but neither of them played in the defence at the weekend.
Sutton finally struck after an early ball from James Taylor that wasn’t controlled by the Shrewsbury defence was latched onto by captain Matt James whose fierce shot into the bottom corner gave the home side a one goal lead at half-time.

 Sutton Coldfield - its history
The Arms of Sutton Coldfield are based on the Arms of the towns greatest benefactor, John Harman, otherwise known as Vesey.
Vesey returned to Sutton Coldfield in 1524 to attend his mothers funeral and found his home town was in a sorry state.
In 1528 Vesey obtained from the King a charter of incorporation for Sutton which entrusted the government of the town to a warden and 24 local inhabitants known together as the Warden and Society of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.

 Sutton Coldfield - The Park
Sutton enjoyed further prosperity in the 18th Century and the system of Warden and Society was abolished in 1886 and the role of Mayor of Sutton Coldfield was created - the first Mayor being Sir Benjamin Stone.
Sutton Park was given to the people of Sutton Coldfield in 1528 by King Henry VIII.
Throughout the years since, the people of Sutton Coldfield have guarded their rights to the park fiercely and lawsuits were brought against the town's Warden and Society, those that administered the town and park, if there was evidence of mismanagement.

Born a Lancastrian, I have lived in Sutton Coldfield since 1969 but only began to take an interest in the place when I retired and needed to fill those hours when the weather prevented golf, bowls or gardening.
Sutton Coldfield is approximately 6 miles north of Birmingham on the A5127 (formerly the A38).
It was created a Royal Town by Charter in 1528, became a municipal corporation in 1886 and lost its independance by merger into the City of Birmingham in 1974.

During the reign of Edward the Confessor, the manor was in the possession of Edwin, Earl of Mercia, but subsequently William the Conqueror held it in his own hands, and Henry 1.
The warden, who Is chosen annually, and the capital burgesses, for life, by the corporation, from their own body, are justices of the peace by virtue of their office.
The corporation are lords of the manor, and elect a lord high steward and park-keepers : the former appoints his deputy, who must be a lawyer, and presides at the courts leet and baron.
