SvalRak er betegnelsen på et rakettoppskytingsprosjekt ved Ny Ålesund hvis formål er å studere atmosfæren.
Svalbard ligger svært nær den magnetiske nordpol, og det er dette som gjør stedet egnet for disse studiene.

UNIS’ development as an academic institution should closely follow the development of research activity in Svalbard in general.
UNIS should increasingly be regarded as a facility for research and should be encouraged to develop links with other Norwegian research infrastructure including European Incoherent Scatter Radar (EISCAT), Svalbard Rocket Launching Site (SVALRAK), Svalbard Satellite Station (SVALSAT) and Longyearbyen Hospital.
At the same time, UNIS should to an increasing degree utilise the research facilities already established in Ny-Ålesund.
