Thought for the Week   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
I’m not thinking of the planets, but of the worlds we live in, the worlds of work and relaxation, loving and listening, power and authority, joy and pain, worship and prayer.
They generally tend to go on regardless of “Svengate”, Big Brother, Iraq and by-elections.
There may be new social orders emerging, but our desires to love and be loved, to share and receive, reflect the timeless nature of what it means to be human.

I can’t believe how the press and the Football Association are going totally overboard because England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been getting jiggy with one of the FA’s secretary’s.
Its because in this PC world we live anyone who is known to more than 12 people has to live a squeeky clean Christian life otherwise all the sad bastards who have never had an adventure in their life get upset.

Football | FA must pick Apple lessons for brand new start
The FA is wobbling like a punch-drunk boxer, reeling as a merciless press lay blow after blow recounting every sordid detail of the Svengate affair.
The actions the FA takes in the next days and weeks will have to be big and exciting enough to make people forget Svengate and concentrate on the future of the FA.
The FA can survive this crisis if it acts quickly and decisively to fix the puncture that is fast deflating it.

A week ago, it doubled up its scoop by revealing that not only had Sven been bedding Alam but so had Sven's boss, the FA's chief executive Mark Palios, within the same six-month period.
"Svengate" (sigh) might have stayed in tabloid-land and fizzled out over time had the FA not repeatedly denied that Sven had been up to his old tricks.
Sven has protested his innocence: "I have at no time either categorically confirmed or denied any relationship with Ms Faria Alam," he said in a statement released on Thursday.

Observer | Why Sven is played up front
Scrutiny of the sex life of a public figure is standard tabloid fare, but the FA's attempt to bury the story turned it into a full-blown scandal.
It would probably have made the front of most papers in any era, but the prominence afforded to Svengate is indicative of the modern newspaper tendency to run sports stories on the news pages as well as the back pages.
The financing and construction of Wembley stadium, London's Olympic bid, security concerns at Athens, the controversial rebranding of the football league and the renaissance of the England cricket team all received ample coverage beyond the back pages.

LONDON (AFP) - Britain was gripped by a complex tale of sex, sport and intrigue which has cost the job of its national football association chief and threatens the future of England team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
More than Iraq, the Middle East or worthy world trade talks, the affair -- inevitably dubbed Svengate -- has come to dominate the front and back pages of the newspapers as well as television.
It reached a new pitch Sunday when Mark Palios, who had a brief affair with the same English Football Association secretary as also romanced by Eriksson, announced that he would step down as FA chief executive after just a year.

Gibson is likely to come under extreme pressure within the coming days, as is the FA's chairman, Geoff Thompson, who unilaterally cleared Palios of any wrongdoing last week.

Answer, simply that the FA heeded its own legal advice, which categorically stated that Sven had no case to answer in respect of the allegations against him and so to dismiss him would have been legal suicide.
So, what were the reasons behind this legal advice and the FA’s final decision in the latest Svengate affair?
Ultimately, it came down to the nature of the allegations against Sven and the evidence in support of them.
