The village of SVESHTARI is home to what is arguably the finest Thracian tomb yet discovered in Bulgaria.
Found in 1982 in a mound of earth known locally as Ginina Mogila, it is the largest of a group of 26 mogili (tumuli) lying about 2km beyond the western fringes of the village.
Some theories suggest that the configuration of the tombs either mirrors the constellations, or symbolizes the holy trinity of the Thracians, while ruins elsewhere in the vicinity have led many scholars to identify the Sveshtari neighbourhood with Dausdava, capital of the Getae.

A barrel-vaulted tomb discovered near the village of Sveshtari, Razgrad district, in what is now northeastern Bulgaria, has a dromos, an antechamber, a burial chamber, and an additional side chamber next to the antechamber.
I would suggest, then, that rather than a goddess, the artist of the Sveshtari tomb has represented a local female ruler, with her retinue of women, in the act of offering a wreath to the victorious Alexander.

It's hoped that examination of the remains found in the Sveshtari tomb will shed new light on the civilization of the Getae, an important Thracian tribe who inhabited both banks of the lower Danube in classical times.
Ancient authors disagreed on whether to classify the Getae as Thracians or as Dacians (who lived north of the Danube in what is now Romania), although it's safe to assume that all these groups came from the same ethnic roots.
Evidence suggests that the Getae honoured a trinity of deities comprising mother earth, sun and moon, and, indeed, items of treasure recovered from the Sveshtari tombs were often found positioned in symbolic groups of three.
