Svetlana Boguinskaya was born in Minsk on February 3, 1973 at a time when Belarus was still part of the Soviet Union.
Svetlana was required to leave her home to attend the grueling training camp that was essentially a machine to produce world-class athletes.
At the age of 23, Svetlana was one of the oldest gymnasts on the world scene, yet she managed to finish fourteenth overall in the individual all-around competition.
