Svetozar se oštro pobunio takvoj odluci i sa svojih 30-40 bataljona i dalje ostao da brani Slovensku granicu ističući da će Slovenski borci hrabrost pokazati upravo na pragu svoje domovine.
Svetozar sa svojih 30-40 bataljona uspješno odbio prvi napad italijanskog grofa Luigia Cadorne koji je predvodio čak 336 bataljona.
Tokom tih godina na italijanskom frontu Svetozar je promovisan više puta i na kraju dobio i čin Feldmarchala.
