Svipdag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Svipdag is the hero of the two Old Norse poems, Grogaldr and Fjolsvinnsmal, which are contained within the body of one work, Svipdagsmál.

This she does and he duly arrives at the castle where he is interrogated in a game of riddles by the watchman, from whom he conceals his true name.

To Svipdag's task of liberating the goddess of love corresponds, in the monkish poem, Orentel's task of liberating Frau Breyde from her surrounding of giants, heathens, and knights templar, and restoring to Christendom the holy grave in Jerusalem.
Below, I shall prove that Orvandil, Svipdag's and Ull's father, is identical with Egil, the foremost skee-runner in the mythology, and that Svipdag is a cousin of Skadi, "the dis of the skees".
Svipdag ("the glimmering day") and Skirnir ("the shining one") form another group, which refers to his birth as the son of the star-hero Orvandil, who is "the brightest of stars," and "a true beam from the sun" (see above).

This impossible task illustrates how thorough a familiarity with all aspects of the Tree of Knowledge is demanded of one seeking union with his higher self, represented by Menglad, the principle of spiritual intelligence.

Some brief comparisons will serve to illustrate the validity of this interpretation, which is important to the understanding of Fjolsvinsmal 30: In Volundarkviða, Volund forges a sword and a "lind-ring" which is taken from him by Nidhad (Nidi= the Subterranean).
One learns further that so long as Sinmara lacks the luminous sickle that she feels an anquish "that cannot be eased" and that the cock Vidofnir himself feeling her, the "fl one's" distress, sighs (str.
This characterizes compassion on the part of Vidofnir with the sorrow of the sword-guardian, Sinmara, and consequently is an indication that Vidofnir relieves it with the luminous sickle found between his "staffs" which comes into Sinmara's possession through Svipdag.
