		Swabi lies between the Indus and Kabul rivers, in the north west frontier (NWFP) of Pakistan.
		Swabi is a huge market for the tobacco while the other cash crops are vegetables, wheat, sugar cane and maze.
		Swabi is also the house to one of the most prestigious institutes of the country namely Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology in the town of Topi.

		Their spoken language is Pashto in Swabi and mostly Hindko in Abbottabad.

		SWABI, Dec 19: The Swabi Jamhoori Ittehad (SJI) and Swabi Qaumi Mahaz (SQM) have entered into an electoral alliance against the Awami National Party (ANP), said Imran Khan Tarakai, media incharge for Tarakais here on Wednesday.

		Geographically and historically, the area constituting Swabi District is a part of the Peshawar valley, and a famous center of Buddhism and the Gandhara civilization.
		This is despite the fact that the majority of the male members of local civil society organizations are educated and belong to rich families: their exposure to human rights and women’s rights issues appears to have had little influence on their mindset, at least when they think or decide about women land rights.
		It is interesting to note that Swabi is considered one of the most educated Districts, including female education, and people generally believe that the residents of Swabi are very “advanced” and progressive but we found that ground realities are very different.

		SWABI, Dec 26: Illegal excavation of some vital archaeological sites had been continuing across the district Swabi, authentic sources told Dawn here on Wednesday.
		About two months back, the sources said the CIA police had raided an archaeological site, Dheri, near Galabat bypass (located in Baja area), arrested one Islam and registered a case against him for allegedly conducting illegal digging of the site and extracting a number of valuables, earning, thereby, millions of rupees.
		When contacted, the CIA in charge, Khalid Naseem Khan, told Dawn that the Mardan army monitoring cell had informed the Swabi monitoring cell who inquired from the Swabi police about the illegal excavation, and "we raided the site and recovered a human skull, hands and other items from Mr Islam.
