What is a Swage or Swedge Block : SwageBlocks.com
Swage blocks are generally thick square or rectangular blocks of cast iron, ductile iron or steel.
A swage block is made of cast iron (a metal inferior to steel) and is used for finish sizing hot work that has been forged on the anvil and to shape by bending or for forming sheet metal.
Often a wood (swage) block or "stump" is used for dishing hemispherical and spoon shapes.

 Swage-On Flanges
The Swage-On process uses a hydraulically-powered, internal swaging tool to expand the pipe end outward into machined ridges on the inside diameter of the flange sleeve, producing a permanent connection that equals or exceeds the pressure rating and structural strength of the existing pipe.
The Swage-On connection is formed as rollers on the swaging tool move axially along a mandrel to expand the pipe past its elastic limit and into its plastic range.
The Swage-On sleeve-to-pipe connection has an axial tensile strength equal to the yield strength of the pipe. The sealing reliability and structural integrity of the Swage-On connector was demonstrated in tests involving a 6-in ANSI 900 connection using API 5L X52 pipe.

Swage blocks have been around for some 3200 years or more yet not every shop has one.
Some of the uses of blocks were taken over by better designed anvils with hardy and pritchel hole and the swage attachements that fit the hardy hole.
Swage blocks are a largely under utilized tool in many shops that have them.

 Corbin Core Swaging Dies
Core Swage dies typically are used to prepare the core for insertion into a bullet jacket, although for high precision lead bullets a core swage may be used to pre-adjust the lead weight and shape into a cylinder prior to reshaping in a core seating die.
The core swage die is also a percentage of difference device: it continually improves the weight control percentage as you re-swage the same core, because the core starts from a more consistent point and the slight bleed off that results is a more consistent amount as a result of the more consistently developed pressure.
The core swage internal punch is also marked with "S" and with the diameter of the die bore (which is the same as the core diameter produced by this die).

 ESCO Swage Sleeves
Among the most rugged swage sleeves ESCO makes, these stainless steel swage sleeves are cast with the popular 40SS stainless steel, which was created specifically for swaging.
During swaging, tough stainless steel surrounds the splice, increasing the strength of the slice and preventing unlaying when the wire rope is under load.
ESCO carbon steel single swage sleeves are available in sizes to fit wire rope from 1/4" to 2-1/2".

 Hydraulic Swage Well Repair
The standard swages are used to repair damage to steel cased wells with inside diameters from 10-inches to 20-inches.
A swage (shown to the right) is a repair device that acts like a circular wedge to push back damaged casing and install liners.
The swage is run off a rig or crane with at least 5/8-inch cable or 2-inch pipe, an electric wire is also connected to the swage to supply electrical power.

 Corbin Bullet Swage Dies
A lead bullet formed in a single die will have a shoulder between shank and nose, created because this kind of swage die uses a cavity shape in a punch to create the nose (and the edge of this punch must be of at least.015 inch thickness to avoid breakage).
In some cases you may need a second, smaller core swage die and lead wire to fit it, and possibly a second core seating die to pre-seat the little core into the smaller jacket (although this is normally done in one operation, as the larger jacket and assembled core/jacket stack is swaged together).
The combination of core swage, rebated boattail base, 14-caliber X.014-offset secant ogive point form die, and lead tip forming die, can be ordered as the RBTL-5 die set with ULD shape, a proprietary Corbin term for this particular secant ogive/RBT base bullet.

At left is a disassembled.218 diameter pellet swage die for.22 Airgun.
The quantity used is so small that there is no danger to the operator, but detonation results in nothing but ash instead of a film of lubricant, and causes hard ejection and excess wear on the dies.
Instructions come with the die, but swaging is so simple that the best information is gained by experimenting.

 Corbin Bullet Swage Chemicals
Corbin Swage Lube (CSL) is a clean, viscous liquid that can be applied with the fingers or a cloth pad to bullets, jacket material, lead wire, or cartridge cases.
Corbin Swage Lube forms a tough film between the die and the part being formed, and withstands very high pressures without dieseling (unlike most common oil-based lubes, which detonate at swaging pressures).
It is not a "bullet lube" for shooting down the bore: it is a forming lube that serves to protect the dies and tools, extend their life and prevent corrosion when they are not being used.

 FAST FLEMISH SWAGE SYSTEM
The after swage dimensions of the swaged sleeves are the same as the after swage dimensions of sleeves swaged in the conventional methods.
In the first swage step, the sleeve cannot be over swaged because of the precise notching of the die; the second step allows a controlled closing of the dies to slightly less than full closure whereby the third and final step allows full close of the dies.
Conventional swaging methods swage a round carbon steel sleeve on the wire rope with repeated multiple closing of the dies until the sleeve is completely swaged.

Swage pressing is effective but not inexpensive, due to the equipment involved.
Portable presses address the size issue fundamental to conventional swage pressing but for a business on a budget the cure may be worse than the disease.
Moreover, a swage fitting cannot be reused because it has been literally married to the rope as a consequence of pressing.

“Swage blocks are generally 2 1/2 - to 3-inches thick and anywhere from 6 to 18-inches square, depending on the versatility required.
When the block is placed on the anvil, or on a separate wooden block or stand, these depressions are used to shape round cape chisels or used in place of lower swages.
