Chapter 4, Municipal Police Services in South Africa - Municipal Policing in South Africa, Development and Challenges - Monograph No 67, 2001
Second, it funding for the establishment (including training) of the municipal police service is being drawn from both the local and provincial level, and the project will be a flagship of the municipality as well as of the province.
Municipal police, given that they are not responsible for investigating crime, will probably be judged in respect of one key criterion: their visibility, particularly in areas where the public feels unsafe.
Municipal police services should concentrate initially on a highly visible and effective presence in built-up or areas (such as city and town centres) used by all South Africans.

Mbashe Local Municipality can be classified as a name that refers to a geographical feature found in the area and also as a name that describes a particular event or a myth in history.
Disestablished municipalities refer to the municipalities that existed during the interim phase (1995-2000) in the area of the "new" municipality.
Typical examples are to be found in municipalities such as Stellenbosch which was named after the Governor of the Cape, Utrecht which was named after a city in the Netherlands and George which was named after the then ruling King of England.

In the Western Cape, an incident occurred about two weeks ago where DA canvassers in the Swartland municipality affixed stickers to ID books at the request of the voters concerned.

In the Free State, he says, two elderly and semi-literate DA supporters requested their children to affix DA stickers to the plastic cover of their ID documents to assist them to identify the block in which they wished to place their crosses.
