Election Resources on the Internet: Elections to the Swedish Riksdag
The Swedish Riksdag electoral system shares strong similarities with the systems used in neighboring Norway and (to a lesser degree) Denmark to choose members of their respective national legislatures, the Storting and the Folketing.
Parliamentary vote ties were decided by casting lots, and the 1973-76 legislature became known as the "lottery Riksdag." Consequently, the size of the Riksdag was reduced by one, to 349 seats, effective as of 1976.
For the 2006 general election, the Moderates, the Liberals, the Christian Democrats and the Center Party agreed to run on a common platform, and formed the Alliance for Sweden to challenge the political dominance of the Social Democrats, who have been in power for all but nine of the past seventy years.

Swedish Election: 'left' stays in power. Analysed by Jan A Johansson in Spectre Magazine
In the local elections we lost some seats and the extreme right succeeded in electing one or two councillors in around 30 of the 290 local Swedish communities.
When, during the election campaign, the Social Democrats made a left turn, scrapping all plans to govern with right wing parties, they were able to attract the voters who stood between their own views and those of the Left Party.
That, and the fact that the Conservatives had an unimpressive election campaign focussing almost exclusively on tax cuts - which voters could see could be made only at the expense of redistributive social programmes, made many voters change from the Conservatives to the Liberals.

  The Swedish Political Parties
Not until the 1988 election was this quintet—Social Democrats, Communists, Moderates (Conservatives), Liberals and Centrists—joined by a newcomer in the form of the Green Party, which in turn paved the way for two new parties, the Christian Democrats and New Democracy, in the 1991 election.
The stability of Swedish parliamentary politics was due to the balance between the two party blocs: the socialist and the nonsocialist.
As elections are held simultaneously (since 1994, every four years) to Parliament, county councils and municipal councils, election campaigns are national affairs and this makes it difficult for small, local parties with nationwide ambitions to catch the attention of the media.

 Swedish Model - Complete Text
Swedish economic historians talk of four periods of capitalism: Classic Capitalism from 1840 to 1890; Organised Capitalism from 1890 to 1939; Participatory Capitalism from 1945 to 1970; and Corporate Capitalism from 1970 onwards.
The Swedish Social Democrats were in a position to implement these ideas as early as the 1930s which would have made them the first government in Europe to embrace the new orthodoxy which has subsequently come to be known as Keynsianism.
The Swedish unions lost the argument and as a result the oft-disputed Paragraph 34 was included in the Saltsjöbaden Agreement, reserving for management the right to determine the breakdown of work in the work place.

SWEDEN’S GENERAL election on 15 September saw the return of Göran Persson’s government, with the ruling social democrats (SAP) increasing their vote to 40% from their 36% share in 1998.
The Left Party (ex-Communists) had doubled their vote in the 1998 election, largely at the expense of the SAP, but this time their ‘fatal attraction’ to the ruling social democrats and support for spending cuts was roundly punished at the polls.
Prior to the election the party ran over 100 local councils, mostly together with the SAP and Greens, but sometimes in coalition with the ‘bourgeois bloc’.
