Sweet spot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A sweet spot is a place, often numerical as opposed to physical, where a combination of factors suggest a particularly suitable solution.
In the middle is a sort of grey area, where the materials needed to construct an arch (for instance) would be about equal to the expense of the cabling needed for a suspension design.
This is the "sweet spot" for the cable-stayed bridge that reduces the cabling and the materials.

 Finding the Sweet Spot
The sweet spot is not merely a fixed location awaiting discovery — if that were the case it could be found by a machine.
By finding the sweet spot, you are defining what you consider to be the most desirable balance among multiple interrelated ranges of sonic elements.
Sweet spots are contextual not only to the instrument, the mic, and the space, but also to the mood and arrangement of the song.

A good way to get kids to understand the sweet spot is to hold a bat vertically with one hand and tap it with a hammer lightly along the length of its hitting surface.
Batters know from experience that there is a sweet spot on the baseball bat, about 17 cm (6-1/2") from the end of the barrel, where the shock of the impact, felt by the hands, is reduced to such an extent that the batter is almost unaware of the collision.
Contrary to popular opinion, the two sweet spots do not coincide with the point at which the ball rebounds with maximum speed, nor do they define the spots where the force on the hand is zero.

The sweet spot of a bat exists partly because bat vibrations are not excited significantly at that spot and partly because the spot is close to the centre of percussion.
The ideal spot to hit the ball is half way between the two nodes since both modes will be excited but only with small amplitude.

The home-theater receiver calibrates by playing a test tone through the main and surround speakers, a tone that is modified by each speaker's unique design characteristics and location — and further altered by the reflections of the sound bouncing off the walls of the room.
The listener repeats the process for each location, such as three spots on a couch, two on a loveseat and one more on a recliner.
Alternative approaches to provide multiple sweet spots have been developed by audio companies, but those algorithms average sound data, a process that can yield problems when sound waves cancel each other out.
