Kill the swill - 14 March 2001 - New Scientist
Europe may ban the feeding of swill to pigs in an attempt to prevent future outbreaks of foot and mouth disease.
Swill is also supposed to be heat treated before being fed to pigs.
A ban on swill could form part of a wider push to abolish farmyard practices that help spread disease, and to decrease reliance on imported feed that might bring harmful diseases into the country.

 AVIS - African swine fever
The swill feeding of food scraps (which may contain imported animal products) is a very important way by which ASF and a number of other serious transboundary animal diseases such as foot and mouth disease, swine vesicular disease and classical swine fever may introduced into a country.
Every effort should be made to prevent swill feeding of food waste from international aircraft or ships, as this constitutes a high risk for introduction of ASF to new countries.
Although bans on swill feeding are a goal to be aimed at from the point of view of disease prevention, the impossibility of monitoring the situation at household level renders this difficult to achieve in many countries.

 Why SWILL?
Simply stated, SWILL is a solution to one of those nagging programming problems---namely that of making programs easier to use.
Specifically, SWILL is a library that focuses on the problem of adding remote accessibility to an application.
SWILL turns this situation on its head and approaches the problem from a slightly different angle---maybe it would be easier to add a web server to the application instead.

 Editorial
As I mulled over the re-launch of Swill in the latter months of 2000, the primary reasons for this endeavour were:
In essence, the revival of Swill was to be a retrospective, an opportunity to gather in and re-connect with some of the old contributors for on final "kick-at-the-can".
Swill was a vicious, angry, intentionally offensive, silly, irreverent, and obnoxious series of attacks on the science fiction genre and, in particular, science fiction fandom.

Swill was intended as a one-shot, single-issue magazine.

In the late summer of '81 I began to publish Swill again, but it was not the same as the original four issues.

Swill, is best know as one of the lead vocalists with The Men They Couldn't Hang.
There's a mandolin-driven instrumental ("Lusty Glaze"), a polished studio track that demonstrates that Swill hasn't completely abandoned his TMTCH roots ("World of Discontent") and a somewhat bland and anonymous "help for the downtrodden" track that would have benefited from the inclusion of more story in the lyric.
Finally Swill (guitar and vocal) and Bobby Valentino (fiddle) duet on the traditional track "Sam Hall," and their rendition of this tale of a chimneysweep sentenced to hang for thieving is wonderfully understated.
