Swindon is one of the fastest growing towns in the UK (along with Milton Keynes) and has a very low unemployment rate.
Swindon is located in the South West of the UK - between London and Bristol - and is easily accessible from junctions 15 and 16 of the M4 motorway.
During much of the 20th Century the railway works was the largest employer in the town.

Railway enthusiasts from all over the world flocked to Swindon over the weekend of the 18 and 19 September 2004 to enjoy a very rare site indeed - live steam back at the home of the GWR.
Star of the show was Swindon's record-breaking locomotive City of Truro, who was back at her spiritual birthplace to celebrate the 100th anniversary of her famous 100mph run on 9 May 1904 - the first time mankind was propelled by machine past the landmark speed.
In tribute to the occasion, a fully operational steam running line was laid at STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway, Swindon - for the special weekend, where over one thousand train fans were able to ride behind City of Truro and enjoy a bygone age once again.

Swindon's STEAM museum held its annual steam festival this weekend.
The event, which ran over two days, was an exhibition and trade show for all ages featuring everything "steam" from Thomas the tank engine to the masterworks of the Great Western railway's steam trains at their heyday.
And with Swindon celebrating Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 200th anniversary, and the festival in full throw, it was quite the day out.

 Beer Festivals
We were very sorry to leave the Old Railway Museum in Faringdon Road where we have enjoyed 3 excellent festivals, but the opportunity to use an ex-workshop of the GWR in the year of Brunel's 200th celebrations was too good to miss.
The Festival was held at STEAM, the Museum of the Great Western Railway, which is right beside the tracks of the Paddington to Swansea mainline.
Regrettably the 2002 Swindon Beer Festival had to be cancelled as a result of the strike action by the Fire Brigades Union.
