Sometimes swing voters are thought of as a large group like this election year's much-discussed "NASCAR dads." Sometimes voters are considered part of a "swing" population because they are residents of a swing state, like Florida.
Most of the swing voters are between the ages of 30 and 49, live in suburbs and have some college education, The Washington Post reported.
The "swing factor," according to the political newsletter, The Hotline, "is a statistical measure used in order to determine where and with which sub-group the race is unpredictable.

Can Kerry lose Missouri and win the White House? - By Chris Suellentrop - Slate Magazine
During a three-day swing through the state last week, I discovered that an inner demographer resides within nearly every politically minded Missourian: The state is a perfect blend of North, South, East, and West, I was told again and again.
Political cool-hunters head to California to learn about the trends that will soon be heading east, but they head to Missouri to confirm that a particular craze has gone mainstream.
Politically, the map of Missouri resembles the nation's: The red-blue divide from the county-by-county map of the 2000 election is marked by blue "coasts" around Kansas City and St. Louis, with a giant, mostly red swath in the middle.

During the post-war period British politics was characterised by a strong two-party system.
The general sense of national unity that existed in the post-war era began to fall apart in the 1970s and broke, apparently irrevocably, during Margaret Thatcher's premiership.

Phillips argues that the question isn't whether the Democratic Party should move left or right -- the straw man the DLC poses -- but whether the party is prepared to do battle for the vast majority against the powerful few.
Instead, they should organize themselves independently to challenge the president's politics of privilege, put forth a bold agenda for change and take the gloves off against the right.
