 Yungaburra
The 489-hectare Lake Eacham National Park, as with Lakes Barrine and Eacham, is a volcanic crater full of crystal water, surrounded by tropical highland rainforest.
There is quite a large Swiss Italian community in the area — many came to farm, trade or look for gold and stayed.
Yungaburra has not altered much since 1910 and except for a discreet alternative lifestyle presence these days, the town emits a strong sense of history.

The Scandinavian peninsula had always interested me—looking at a map of the area, for example, one can’t help but be intrigued by its northerly location, its rugged coastline, and its Swiss-cheese-like topography.
Perhaps because of its northerly location, almost all of Jotunheimen appeared to be barren and treeless, and on this section of the hike, lime-green lichen clinging to rocks was about the sum total of plant life that I saw.

Satellite observations have shown that the boundary between Earth's magnetic field and the solar wind (known as the magnetopause) is riddled like Swiss cheese, with holes that may reach several miles in diameter.
According to recent research results by James Drake at the University of Maryland in College Park and other scientists, the intense electric currents generated during magnetic reconnection produce "electron holes," regions where electrons are sparse.
The holes move in the opposite direction of the prevailing electric current at speeds that can be faster than 1,000 miles per second, or 4 million miles per hour.

Cultural Resources: Historic Structures and History
Many of the park's structures are historically significant because of their association with the Great Northern Railway, whose president, Louis Hill, began construction on Swiss-style chalets a year before Glacier was named a national park.
Despite efforts to rehabilitate Going-to-the-Sun Road and historic lodges, the assessment forecasts that there will likely be no significant improvement in the condition of historic structures and historical research over the next ten years unless bold steps are taken to increase funding for preservation and to focus on the park's history.
The Park Service also constructed historically significant structures to accommodate park administration, tourism, and the automobile—including Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is one of the most scenic drives on Earth.
