  Switching Channels
They would like to arrange the timing of programmes so viewers can switch channels without missing the end of one programme or the beginning of another.
Since many viewers watch the news, they would be less likely to watch a CPN programme whose ending time causes them to miss the beginning of the news, or which starts before the news finishes.
A ``miss" time is the absolute value of the difference between the time of an alignment point and the nearest time of the beginning or end of a programme.

Switching Technologies for Future Guided Wave Optical Networks
Switching is based on connections set up by user signaling, and routing is connectionless switching of datagrams (a datagram is a packet routed independent of other packets from the same source).
The demultiplexing in a switch separates the channels of an input link and routes them to their destined outputs, where they are multiplexed with channels coming from other inputs (or vice versa for a shared-medium switch).
The wavelength channels are then routed in the space switch either to output fiber combiners, where they are merged with other wavelength channels for subsequent amplification in line-fiber amplifiers, or to the electronic layer.

A Deterministic, Relevance-Weighted, Time-Division Algorithm for Television Channel Switching
It is meant to show simply that an efficient algorithm based on integer operations can allow the viewer to adjust his or her evaluation of channels' relevance while keeping basic constraints of channel switching in place.
Relevance-weighted switching algorithms may prove useful not only in adding value to viewer experiences with television programs, but in providing models for other decisions that users have to make throughout their day in allocating time to information, tasks, and personal interactions.
Indeed, the challenge of switching at appropriate times and of viewing televisions segments with the highest subjective relevancy ratings often seem to be of more interest to viewers than the television shows themselves.

Switching Channels | The American Prospect
One of the ways in which conservatives have (if I may) outfoxed liberals on the question of media is that conservatives have turned to the private sector for relief and liberals to the public.
This is exactly the right time for some liberal multimillionaire or -aires to try to start a cable channel.
But far from being some act of charity, such a channel could prove that progressive ideas can actually survive in the private market and turn a profit.

News on specialist channels was rated higher on news attributes and evaluated more positively than identical news on generalist channels.
This pattern of results is consistent with the notion of channel as a place where television programs-and the people and action in them-exist.

Multiprotocol label switching price quotes and free consultation!
Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) utilizes major advancements in technology to establish secure private communication channels, for the transfer of data, over shared networks, such as private intranets or the public internet.
For multiple location networks, or two location networks which you know will increase in number of locations, multiprotocol label switching can be far more functional, and far less expensive than a network comprised of point-to-point lines.
In most cases, full T1 or DS3 MPLS networks are provided with all needed hardware and installation, configuration and management of the network by the provider for about the same cost, or just slightly more, per location, than managed internet service.

Just as improved phone support has reduced the need for over-the-counter transactions — of which Wodonga was servicing up to 4500 monthly two years ago and now averages just 1700 — e-mail promises to reduce the volume of phone enquiries councils have to answer.
Managing these channels, however, presents its own challenges: e-mail volumes, in particular, have a tendency to increase exponentially, something that departments the world over have learned most dramatically after being flooded with so many e-mails that CSRs simply could not keep up.
Long the venue of thumb-happy teenagers and profit-minded competition operators, SMS is gaining currency as a legitimate means of communicating information that might normally have required a call to a contact centre.
