SDSI: InterBase vs Sybase SQL Server And MS SQL Server   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
SQL Server indexes suffer from the same locking limitations as their associated tables except that the implications are much wider ranging.
Like Microsoft SQL Server, installation of a Sybase database requires that space for the RDBMS and any databases be pre-allocated and therefore suffers from all of the same problems with respect to transaction logs, VARCHAR edits, record deletions, bulk data loading and large queries.
Clearly, implementing scalable solutions with MS SQL Server thus involves a far greater investment in the development and maintenance cycles because a common database with a common API cannot be used throughout the enterprise.
