  Owen Glendower - LoveToKnow 1911
In the autumn the English king was for the third time driven " bootless home and weatherbeaten back." The few English strongholds left in Wales were now hard pressed, and Owen boasted that he would meet his enemy in the field.
Nevertheless, in May 1403 Henry of Monmouth was allowed to sack Sycharth and Glyndyvrdwy unopposed.
The Percies were to rise in arms, and meeting Owen at Shrewsbury, overwhelm the prince before help could arrive.

Owain Glyndŵr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glyndŵr's opportunities were further limited by the death of Sir Gregory Sais three years later, and faced with these disappointments he returned to his estates in North Wales, living there quietly for ten years.
In response, Henry of Monmouth (the son of Henry IV and the future King Henry V) attacked and burned Owain's homes at Glyndyfrdwy and Sycharth.
Tradition has that he either died and was buried at his estate in Sycharth or on the estates of his daughters' husbands — Kentchurch in Herefordshire or Monnington.

Sycharth castle was burnt to the ground in 1403
"We know very little about what happened to Sycharth after it was destroyed so excavating that area will enable us to date the building accurately and to see what it was used for after 1403," said Mr Smith, who recently obtained his masters degree.
Sycharth was a motte and bailey castle, with the motte summit serving as the manorial hall where Glyndwr and his family would have lived.

Repressive measures undertaken by the new King Henry, and the penal legislation of 1401 that further restricted Welsh civil rights at the expense of English settlers, gave Owain the support he needed.
As a wealthy landowner at Sycharth, overlooking the Shropshire Plain, Owain was well-educated, well-traveled, and greatly experienced in civil and military matters.
Yet he was willing to leave the security and prosperity he enjoyed at Sycharth to risk everything in his desire to create a self-governing Welsh state.
