Dorothy Sloan – Rare Books: Auction 17: Lot 15
Parkinson (1745?-1771) was one of the tragic figures of Cook’s first voyage, both in life and to a certain extent in death.
Be all that as it may, Parkinson’s Journal and its accompanying plates are early, rich sources for Cook’s first voyage, and the modern reader may regret the possibilities lost when Sydney Parkinson slipped into the seas.
Parkinson, for example, early on recognized the sometimes improper use of firearms against the natives, a situation that disturbed Cook himself and has continued to draw comments from modern scholars.

Parkinson was not a brilliant artist, but he was capable and hard-working, and also a keen observer of the people and places visited by the Endeavour.

 Health Report - 16/08/1999: Parkinson's Disease
But it's a bit more complicated than that because there are a lot of diseases that actually mimic Parkinson's, so you can't be 100% sure if you make that diagnosis while a person's alive.
The only way you can really diagnose Parkinson's and be 100% sure they actually had it, is post-mortem, because we can look for specific changes in that place called the substantia nigra, in the dopamine containing cells, which is very characteristic of the disease.
What I'm saying here is that for example by flooding the system with glutamate, you might improve one system function, but then another part of the brain that has a different chemistry for glutamate, might be actually adversely affected and that's why it's important to try and get the drugs right in the first place.

Clinical Trial: Walking Capacity in Parkinson's Disease (PD-Walk)
After Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most common degenerative neurological condition suffered by Australians, with more than 30,000 Australians having PD at any one time (Parkinson’s Australia).
Hypokinesia, ie, reduced speed and amplitude of movement, is a major impairment of motor control affecting walking in people with PD. Over time, the development of slow, shuffling walking contributes to loss of independence and falls, with devastating consequences for individuals with PD and their families(Ashburn et al, 2001, Playfer 2001).
In people with mild Parkinson’s disease (Canning et al 2005), walking capacity, measured as distance walked in the 6-min walk test, correlated with the amount of walking (r=.64, p<0.01) performed each week.
