Sylvia and Gerry Anderson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anderson was born Gerald Alexander Abrahams on 14 April 1929 in Hampstead, London.
One of Anderson's most successful ventures was inaugurated during the production of Supercar —the establishment of AP Films (Merchandising) Ltd, a separate company set up to handle the licensing of merchandising rights for APF properties; it was headed by Keith Shackleton, an old friend of Anderson's from their National Service days.
Gerry Anderson was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2001, and is still working on new projects, including the CGI version of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, titled Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet (which debuted in 2005).

Sylvia was almost entirely responsible for the look of 'U.F.O.'s' characters as, apart from casting, she also took on the role of costume designer.
Sylvia also tried to ensure that women played stronger roles as characters in 'U.F.O.', and this would provide good parts for Jane Merrow, Suzanne Neve, Adrienne Corri and Tracy Reed among others, and also led to changes in the original, predominantly male, main cast.
Sylvia was then offered a position with the Home Box Office cable channel, and since the mid-Eighties has been with the company as production consultant and British representative.

A second Zero X mission is planned, but people are dubious until International Rescue, a hi-tech disaster aid organization run by the Tracy family from a secret island base, agree to act as security for the project.
A great fascination of Anderson’s series was the models - their wonderfully imaginative designs and functionality - and the pseudo-technobabble.
The opening scene with the unveiling of the Zero X, with all of its elaborately detailed modular parts joining together and dwarfing the other tiny models on the field, is fabulous and is one part where the film really takes advantage of the big screen.

Let us face the unvarnished truth: Gerry Anderson is a man who has no ideas, who is deathly afraid of ideas, who has consistently employed futuristic settings and special effects only as gaudy ornaments to the hoariest, most imbecilic, and most cliché-ridden stories imaginable.

 Gerry Anderson FAQ
Gerry Anderson is a British producer who was to British TV in the 60's what Walt Disney was to U.S. TV in the 50's -- THE purveyor of children's television.
Most of Anderson's 60's and 70's shows were produced with his now-ex-wife, Sylvia Anderson (nee Thann); in recent years, Anderson has teamed with Christopher Burr, John Needham, and Roger Lefkon.
The series is considered the "fl sheep" of the Anderson family due to its lack of success in the U.S. and its complete lack of connectivity with any of the other Anderson series, though series co-star Tony Anholt went on to play Tony Verdeschi in the second season of SPACE:1999.

Gerry Anderson is most often remembered as the creator of the popular 1960s television series Thunderbirds and its unique cast of "Supermarionation" characters.
He is also fondly thought of by genre fans for Space 1999, his saga of Earth's "future." But few seem to remember that the influential producer established himself with a lesser-known puppet-based series, 1962's Fireball XL5.
This isn't the most popular of Gerry Anderson's creations, to be sure, but it does deserve to be rediscovered, and DVD is the best way to do so.
