Sylvia Olive Pleadwell Sayer, Lady Sayer (1904-2000) was one of the foremost early conservators of what is now Dartmoor National Park, in Devon in the south-west of England.
Despite Lady Sayer's establishment background, she was a fearless and empassioned fighter in the defence of Dartmoor: frequently she deliberately interrupted army live-firing exercises on Dartmoor's military ranges, and in 1985 snubbed The Prince of Wales over the Duchy of Cornwall's management plan for Dartmoor, since this allowed for a continuance of military usage.

Sylvia Robinson is now retired from the music game, but she will never forget the sights and sounds that assailed her senses when she took her seat in the club's balcony.
Even as a soft- spoken 69-year-old, Sylvia retains something of the imperious air for which she was once renowned; she doesn't like answering questions, and she may not have the sharpest recollection of her career's darker moments, but memories of an upbeat event such as Lovebug Starski's performance will animate her.
Mickey and Sylvia are best known for the 1957 smash "Love Is Strange." According to Sylvia, the idea for the song came to her at Washington, D.C.'s Howard Theater, where she and Baker shared a bill with a number of other popular R&B acts, including Bo Diddley.

Mickey and Sylvia had further success with "There Oughta Be A Law" (1957) and, after a brief hiatus as a duo, "Baby You're So Fine" (1961), but their career together was undermined by commitments elsewhere.
In 1973, she began recording as Sylvia, and later achieved notable success as an entrepreneur through her ownership of Sugar Hill Records, early champions of the rap/hip-hop scene.
Mickey Baker and Sylvia Robinson are perhaps best remembered for the sly, playful and sexy interplay on their recordings but they also recorded some wonderful Rock and R&B. Mickey was a great guitar player (Sylvia was a former student) and they had their biggest hit with "Love Is Strange" in 1957.

But Sylvia Vanderpool (later Sylvia Robinson) had made her first recording 23 years earlier as Little Sylvia, and had first hit the US chart in 1957 as one half of duo Mickey And Sylvia with "Love Is Strange".
