Old World warbler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The largely southern warbler family Cisticolidae is traditionally often included in the Sylviidae.
The American Wood warblers, Parulidae, and the Australian warblers, Acanthizidae, are unrelated to the Sylviidae.
The Sylviidae mainly occur as breeding species, as the name implies, in Europe, Asia and, to a lesser extent Africa.

Sylviidae - 莺科 - ウグイス科 - Họ Chim chích
Under Sibley and Monroe, the Sylviidae (Old World warblers) are a huge family consisting of tesias, warblers, tailorbirds, grass birds, laughing thrushes, and babblers.
To render the name of this new Sylviidae, I've referred to CJV names for the Sylviidae or Sylviinae under older classifications.
The distribution of the Sylviidae in East Asia can be seen at Tzung-Su Ding's Distribution of Sylviidae in East Asia.

 warbler
The Old World warblers are in the family Sylviidae, while the New World warblers are members of the Parulidae.
American or wood warblers (family Parulidae) are small, insect-eating birds, often brightly coloured, such as the yellow warbler, prothonatory warbler, and dozens of others.
Old World warblers (family Sylviidae) are typically slim and dull-plumaged above, lighter below, insectivorous, and fruit-eating, overwhelmingly represented in Eurasia and Africa.

 Megalurid grassbirds
The Grassbirds, which might more technically be called the Megalurid Warblers, are a group of 20 species in nine genera of skulking, grass or thicket-loving birds.
Both Sibley and Monroe (1990) and Dickinson (2003) consider this group to be a subfamily of the Sylviidae [SandM lists 21 species, splitting Megalurus whitneyi of the Solomon Is. into two species, while Dickinson does not].
But there are whispers in the wind that when Sylviidae is finally rearranged though molecular evidence derived from the sequencing of nuclear genes, this group may be elevated to family level along with Malagasy Warblers and others.

 Old World warblers
It is not at all clear just how the old "Sylviidae" will be dismembered but with Sylvia moving to the Babblers, whatever is left of the basic Old World Warblers will not be called "Sylviidae." We don't know yet what it will be called.
I use the name "Sylviidae" here simply as the traditional name, now a place-holder until a major re-arrangement is published.
Among other fascinating features of the Sylviidae is the fact that so many of them are highly restricted endemics, some limited to single islands.

A phylogenetic analysis of the evolution of moult strategies in Western Palearctic warblers (Aves: Sylviidae)
Adult birds replace their flight feathers (moult) at least once per year, either in summer after termination of breeding or (in the case of some long-distance migratory species) in the winter quarters.
We reconstructed the evolutionary pathways leading to summer and winter moult using recently published molecular phylogenetic information on the relationships of the Western Palearctic warblers (Aves: Sylviidae).

BirdForum - Sylvia Babblers not Warblers ?
Apparently Sylviidae (Leach 1820) has precedence over Timaliidae (Vigors and Horsfield 1827) but the author proposes the conditional suppression of Sylviidae with respect to Timaliidae and that the name Timaliidae is kept for babblers and Sylvia.
I've been following the work of this researcher and others studying Sylviidae, Turdidae etc. I reckon there's a few more surprises to come!
The species I've seen tend to be noisy, move around in family parties and to be quite bold.
