  Patent 4412838
Potassium chloride of at least technical grade is recovered from sylvinite or sylvinite-like starting materials (sylvite) by leaching with hot mother liquor recycled from a crystallizing stage, the residue consisting substantially of sodium chloride is separated and the solution is cooled to crystallize the potassium chloride.
For this reason it is conventional to leach sylvinite with reheated mother liquor recycled from a crystallizing stage so that potassium chloride is mainly dissolved and sodium chloride remains in the residue.
Sylvinite is ground in a wet-grinding stage 1 in a solution which is saturated with sodium chloride and potassium chloride at room temperature (step (a)).

Potassium chloride - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It occurs naturally as the mineral sylvite and in combination with sodium chloride as sylvinite.
Electrolysis (used for sodium) fails because of the high solubility of potassium in molten KCl.
It is also extracted from salt water and can be manufactured by crystallization from solution, flotation or electrostatic separation from suitable minerals.

 Patent 4608154
Insolubles are removed from sylvinite ores by froth flotation using a small amount of a primary, secondary or primary-ether alkyl amine as collector in combination with a flocculant.
Sylvinite ore containing 5% insol was treated for the removal of insol by flotation using varying amounts of primary amine.
In a commercial operation for the recovery of sylvite, mine-run sylvinite ore containing 25.9% K.sub.2 O equivalent, 54% NaCl and 5.1% insol was comminuted (94%+200 Tyler mesh) and mixed with recycled saturated brine to form an ore pulp containing 70% solids.

Within the potash (sylvinite) resource boundary, the ore bed is continuous, extending about 10 km from west to east and 6 km from north to south.
Over 20% of the deposit, the sylvinite ore zone is underlain by a clean halite interval called the Intervening Floor Halite unit.
All sylvinite ore intervals were sampled and assayed in qualified laboratories in Vancouver, Canada to determine the percent of potassium, magnesium, sodium, calcium and water insoluble fractions.

 revrul77-13
Sylvinite, the potash ore mined by the taxpayer, is basically a mixture of halite (sodium chloride, NaCl) and sylvite (potassium chloride, KCl) with clay impurities.
The mining processes applied by the taxpayer to sylvinite ore to produce fertilizer grade KCl are crushing, grinding, concentration by flotation, leaching, crystallization, dewatering, drying, and sizing.
In the instant case, KCl is the only mineral recovered from the sylvinite ore and the KCl has been separated from the ore prior to the application of the compaction process.

 Patent 4192737
Sylvinite ores are treated for removal of insoluble slimes by a froth flotation technique which includes flocculating the slimes with nonionic or polyacrylamide flocculants and thereafter utilizing a nonionic or an anionic flotation collector including a mixture of fuel oil or a fatty acid and a defoamer of the glycol ester or polyglycol ester type.
A froth flotation process for removing insoluble slimes from sylvinite ore in a saturated brine pulp prior to potash flotation, comprising utilizing as the froth flotation collector a mixture of distilled fuel oil and a defoamer consisting essentially of ethylene glycol monoacetate and floating off said insoluble slimes.
The insol slimes are conventionally removed by scrubbing the ore particles, followed by hydroclassification, as earlier described, to separate the slimes from the coarse sylvinite ore. Any residual insol slimes not removed by the desliming procedure are blinded with suitable reagents, such as guar gum or starch, to prevent interference in subsequent potash flotation.

Innovation in Europe: Research and Results
The potash ore in the Sallent mine is a reddish mineral known as sylvinite, a form of potassium chloride.
The computer finds the boundaries between the various seams, and identifies them primarily by colour and texture (sylvinite is redder and more coarsely layered than the others) with the assistance of neural networks.
In the Sallent mine the cut minerals are carried away from the face by shuttle trucks and the sylvinite taken to the surface by conveyor belt while the waste is deposited in worked-out caverns within the mine.

Sulphate of Potash (SOP) and Sylvinite are approved for restricted use, subject to approval from the registration body.

Sylvinite also provides a significant quantity of sodium, which is an important nutrient in an organic system.

The sylvinite is mostly brick red in colour but there are lenses of grey shale and pure white Potash.
The sylvinite is not as structurally strong as the halite and is mined in six parallel tunnels, leaving 2.5 to 4 metre wide pillars between them, which allow a controlled rate of collapse of the tunnels.
3 million tonnes of sylvinite are mined each year and produce 1 million tonnes of potash, mostly for use as a fertiliser.

99-2047 -- IMC Kalium Carlsbad Inc. v. Interior Board of Land Appeals -- 03/16/2000
Sylvinite and langbeinite are two types of potash ore, with langbeinite commanding a higher price.
He based his evaluation on the current potash mining companies in the area, their current accessible reserves, and estimates of the minimum thickness of potash ore to economically justify mining in the disputed area.
He noted that IMC is the only operator in the area that currently processes mixed sylvinite and langbeinite ore, like that found in the tenth ore zone of the disputed area.

 Methods ot the dressing
Sylvinite dressing by means of floatation method is running in saturated salt solutions.
This method of dressing of the raw material, which contains potash, is based on dissolving the potassium chloride from the ore by the hot solution at the temperature of 120°C followed by the separate crystallization of the salt components of the processed ore.
Technology of the hot-leaching method consists of crushing the sylvinite ore, dissolving the sylvinite by the hot liquor in dissolving tanks with screw mixers and bucket elevators, cooling (in order to achieve crystallization of the potassium chloride from the clarified saturated solution) and thickening in settling basins.
