Sylvio Mantha (April 14, 1902 - died August 7, 1974) was a was a Canadian professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Mantha started as a right-winger for the Notre Dame de Grace Juniors in 1918-19 season, before playing for Verdun in the Intermediate Mount Royal Hockey League, Montreal Imperial Tobacco, and Montreal Norther Electric in the Montreal industrial league.
Mantha was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in both the 1929-30 and 1930-31 seasons.

A three-time Stanley Cup winner, he played 14 NHL seasons, from 1923 to 1937, with all but four games as a Montreal Canadiens player.
Mantha was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in both 1929-30 and 1930-31.
The Boston Bruins were involved in a contract dispute with Eddie Shore, so they signed Mantha at the start of the 1936-37 season -- and gave him Shore's number 2 jersey.

A native of Lachine, Quebec, Canada, Mantha was born on November 29, 1907, and was the brother of Canadian Hockey Hall of Famer, Sylvio Mantha.
Mantha played the position of both forward and defense for teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), and the American Hockey League (AHL), including the Montreal Canadiens from 1928 to 1941, New Haven Eagles from 1940 to 1941, and the Washington Lions from 1941 to 1943, as both player and head coach.
He won the Stanley Cup in 1930 and 1931, and was a member of the NHL All-Star Roster in 1937 and 1939.

Gardiner was a rock on the defense corps of every team he played on, and he was also respected for his consistent play through each season.
During the late 1920s, he formed one of hockey's most successful defensive duos with Sylvio Mantha.
His play was so impressive with the rebuilding Montreal franchise that he was awarded the Hart Trophy as league MVP - no small achievement, as he beat out New York Rangers superstar Bill Cook to cop the award.

Nov. 20, 1928: Boston Garden opened its doors to hockey for the first time when the Bruins moved into their new home.
In the inaugural game played at the Garden, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Bruins 1-0 on a goal by Sylvio Mantha.
George Hainsworth recorded the shutout for the Canadiens, the first of an NHL-record 22 shutouts he posted in 44 games that season.
