Symmetrical components - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In electrical engineering, the method of Symmetrical components is used to simplify analysis of unbalanced three phase power systems.
Charles Legeyt Fortescue in a paper presented in 1918 (Method of Symmetrical Co-Ordinates Applied to the Solution of Polyphase Networks) demonstrated that any set of N unbalanced polyphase quantities could be expressed as the sum of N symmetrical sets of balanced phasors.
Symmetrical components are most commonly used for analysis of three-phase electrical power systems.

As measurement is motion, and as motion is symmetrical, all measurements are symmetrical.
All measurements are symmetrical Symmetry = 0 Thus: all measurements = 0 Traditional measurement theory describes only * half * of the symmetry of measurement and then erroneously assumes the complete calculation of a measurement to be nonzero.
Rotational motion is nonuniform and symmetrical.* The differences between two objects one in uniform and the other in nonuniform motion are differences of force and time.

The unique property of symmetrical components is that they retain the concept of 3-phase system associated with each component phasor.
The zero sequence component is balanced set of 3- coincident phasors but rotating in the same direction as the original unbalanced phasors.
Depending upon the type of fault, the sequence components of currents and voltages are constrained leading to particular connections of sequence network.

Analysis of three-phase networks in disturbed operating conditions using symmetrical components   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
The dimensioning of an installation and the equipment to be used, the settings for the protection devices, and the analysis of electrical phenomena often require calculation of the currents and voltages in electrical networks.
The purpose of this “Cahier Technique” is to set out a simple method of calculating all these parameters in three-phase networks subject to disturbance using the symmetrical components method, and to provide specific application examples.
Vector mathematics, vector representation applied to a three-phase system, symmetrical components, mathematical calculation of the symmetrical components, impedances associated with symmetrical components, basic applications, worked examples.

[Abstract] A New Digital Technique for Identification of Symmetrical Components for Power System Protection
This paper presents a novel technique for identifying and measuring the symmetrical components of three phase voltage or current waveforms in electrical power systems.
The proposed algorithm is then used to estimate the positive, negative and zero components of unsymmetrical waveforms.
Results obtained show that the proposed technique can estimate and track the symmetrical components of non-stationary three phase unbalance voltage or current waveforms in noisy environments.

The effect is symmetrical when the tetrahedron's four vertexes simultaneously pulse outwardly through their opposite void triangles to produce the "star tetrahedron," one outwardly-pointing tetrahedron superimposed on each of the four faces of a nuclear tetrahedron: i.e., 1 + 4 = 5.
There are also the approximately unlimited ranges of frequency modulatabilities occasioned by the symmetrical subdivisioning of all the prime, equiangled, surface triangles of the tetrahedron, octahedron, and icosahedron.
Each one of the six uniformly symmetrical components must be l/6th of One Quarter, which is l/24th of a regular tetrahedron, which is the volume and description of the A Quanta Module.

This extension of the classification is based on the theory of symmetrical components.
For phasor diagrams as shown in Figure 2, the selection of the symmetrical phase is straightforward: the lowest phase for type D, the highest phase for type C. For a non-unity PN-factor and a non-zero phase- angle jump, it may become less obvious which phase is the symmetrical phase.
Transforming the 6 different three-phase unbalanced dips to symmetrical components, by using (3), results in the expressions for positive-sequence voltage V1 and negative-sequence voltage V2 summarized in Table 2.

Current-measuring device according to claim 1, in combination with a four-quadrant power regulator for a resistive-inductive load comprising means for applying a d-c voltage via switching transistors at high frequencies and with varying clock relationship to the load for varying the intensity of the current flowing through the load.
Although it is possible, for example, to compensate for a temperature-induced zero drift with suitable circuits or components if the relationship between the temperature and the shift is known, this usually necessitates elaborate measures and costly expenditures, because the variations in materials mean that each example must be newly calibrated.
In accordance with an additional feature of the invention, the current-measuring device includes a comparator for forming the sign of the difference in the peak values and a counter connected to the comparator for counting in a direction determined by the sign, the count of the counter serving as the correction value.

When there is unevenness between a pair of components the soundstage deteriorates and the sound is perceived as coming from the loudspeaker cabinets.
Because every component has its own tonal characteristics, it is better to use fewer components that are synergistic.
