Encyclopaedia Metallum - Carcass - Reek Of Putrefaction
The CD (76:25) contained both, the "Symphonies Of Sickness" and the "Reek Of Putrefaction" album, but omitted the "Reek Of Putrefaction" tracks # 5, 6, 8, 13, 19 and 21.
The exact same cover was used for "Symphonies Of Sickness" except with a different color scheme.
"Reek Of Putrefaction" was re-released on CD for the first time in 1989 by

 The County Medical Examiners
Those who rush to hoist the flag of grindcore that Carcass dropped after "Symphonies of Sickness" are brave folk indeed, for it takes a measure of dedication and resolve to accurately emulate their patented brand of pathological sickness.
I suppose that sooner or later this band had to come along in one way or the other and I appreciate their humour, complete with pictures of the band in doctors’ scrubs and images of rubber gloves throughout, instead of the usual gore and flesh motif.
For those of you unfamiliar with this band I will tell you straight up that these guys are very similar if not exactly like Carcass (not like the last few albums but the early Carcasss from their first two releases).

 Carcass - Crepitant Grindcore
The tracks from "Symphonies of Sickness" are tighter and more modern where "Reek of Putrefaction" is raging eyesclosed thrust forward intense grindcore crossover.
This material, though built of barre chords and refragmented rock beats, has been assembled with the hand of composition to build material with life, violence, anti-ideological compassion, and humor.

Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction sputnikmusic
While Symphonies of Sickness and Heartwork are Carcass' strongest releases, Reek of Putrefaction remains as a great piece of grind and an essential album.
Along with their first two being classics of the grind genre, Heartwork was also one of the first ever melodic death metal albums.
Despite being primitive, Reek of Putrefaction is a true classic.

M83 Before The Dawn Heals Us Album Review - SoundsXP
It glides and soars to such an extent you may develop altitude sickness by the end of the album and you will certainly need a sweet tooth to stay the distance but if you appreciate chilled ambient euphoria and immense electronic rock symphonies this is perfect.
As a result, 'Before The Dawn Heals Us' has far more soul and successfully avoids being pretentiously contrived, unlike his fellow countrymen's brief excursion off their well-beaten chill-out track.
On the surface this is music perfect for firework displays, Gonzalez succumbing to the idea himself with the crackle and pop of fireworks as the track closes, but if you dig deeper some of these compositions have a strength and pure beauty far beyond mere dramatic background noise.

Blending the cleanly produced bloodlust of "Necrotism" along with the uncontainable monstrosity within the shotty recording values of "Symphonies of Sickness" is this underrated gem known as "Mondo Medicale." Everything is recreated to a tee, but draws no disdain from this reviewer for its lack of originality.
Impaled slices and dices its way through 10 ravenous slices of guts, bodily fluids and sadism with all checks on the list marked.
Heck, to the uninformed this one could be passed off as another Carcass record and they would be none the wiser.

 Metal Maniacs Carcass article
While the Maniacs readers are likely to be familiar with Carcass' first and second records, Reek of Putrefaction and Symphonies of Sickness (the titles of which vaguely illustrate the gist of the lyrics), the vast majority of the rock public is quite unaware of this extreme group from Liverpool.
With their third record, Descanting the Insalubrious, their extremity is given a new base of clarity, with well formed, sometimes almost diatonic musical ideas which bring them out of the melange of low-tuned, death-growling grindspeed bands, some of which owe part of their technique to Carcass in the first place.
The common thread running through everyone in the band is we all enjoy a lot of just really powerful mainstream metal, like Vicious Rumors or middle period Judas Priest or Queensryche, you know, that kind of thing.

 CARCASS
The trio band was basically a side project of Bill Steer of Napalm Death, but when they released the 2nd album, "Symphonies of Sickness," Bill withdrew from Napalm Death to devote to Carcass more.
After releasing the album, Steer departed from the band in late 1995 due to its commercialism.
Their music is so-called "Death Metal," but their melody line, which remarkably changed in the album "Heartwork," is unforgettable to stick to your ears.

You may or may not be aware but many bands took inspiration from the compressed sound on both 'Reek of Putrefaction' and 'Symphonies of Sickness'......
In the intervening years, fans of the band have repeatedly asked when the release would see the light of day, but, with Ken still very ill it was deemed inappropriate to issue the collection.
Carcass need no introduction at all - simply put, to their legions of devotees worldwide, the band made some of the most significant extreme music ever released, and spawned not only the gore/grind scene, but made a dramatic impact on the melodic death metal scene with their last two albums.

With Walker adopting the vocal role, a further five tracks were released in cassette form in 1988 dubbed 'Symphonies Of Sickness'...
Steer and Walker's first musical experiences were learning to play JUDAS PRIEST cover versions as a bedroom band, but this brand of traditional Metal soon gave way to something far more sinister.
Lead vocals on this session were provided by Sanjiv, this singer (the band never learned his surname), exited soon afterward.

 Carcass - Crepitant Grindcore
The Reek of Putrefaction/Symphonies of Sickness LP defined Carcass as the premiere grindcore band in the world while most other bands in the genre disintegrated.
The ability of this band to hang in rhythm despite it being a deliberately off-rhythm, distorted and muddied rhythmic requirement for playing each part qualifies their lengthier, grinding masterpieces which satirize older melodic styles in barre chords shuddering through a phrase.
Start to finish this compilation is an impressive collection of work by an impressive band, and as such like the life of the band is prone to controvery, as styles and intensity of the music vary throughout its tracklist.

 Carcass
The band's second effort, 'Symphonies of Sickness' (1989) gave way to the more palatable 'Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious' (1991), before the dam burst with 'Heartwork' (1993) and a subsequent worldwide deal with Columbia Records buried the myth that Carcass were just another noisy 'death metal' band.
Carcass have never done the obvious, and 'Swansong' echoes the frustrations and personal trials of a band intent on going against the grain, confident in the knowledge that they are doing something different.
It has brought the band to the accessible sound they hinted at on the massive 'Heartwork.' Walker's rasping vocals retain the intensity that hallmarked the earlier albums, but the overall sound is more mature - fluid solos blend with powerful metal riffs to produce an album of real class.

 .: Metal Storm - Carcass - Heartwork - review
Some say Heartwork is the last good album that carcass made in their career, well sure it isn’t the great symphonies of sickness, but it has some good highlights hidden that most people don’t ever hear or refuses to hear.
The lyrics here are more about images than stories, it is the case of Arbeit Mach Fleisch and No Love Lost, most of the lyrics have philosophical matter in a Carcass kind of way, and mainly all the lyrics are about avant-garde art like Heartwork “Works of art, painted black…A canvas to paint, to degenerate”.
The artwork is excellent, the cover art design was in charge of H.R. Giger the creator of the monsters in all the Alien movies, so you get the idea.

Bolt Thrower : Warmaster - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Compare Warmaster to Carcass' very hardcore Symphonies of Sickness, and you'll see that this blistering death metal release is a bit more accessible.
Lead singer Karl Willetts favors the type of choked, grunting vocals that underground grindcore bands were known for, but unlike such bands, Bolt Thrower isn't always heard at breakneck speed.
Bolt Thrower often slows down the tempo, making the morbid lyrics to "The Shreds of Sanity," "Destructive Infinity," and "Profane Creation" easier to understand.

 Carcass - Crepitant Grindcore
The Reek of Putrefaction/Symphonies of Sickness LP defined Carcass as the premiere grindcore band in the world while most other bands in the genre disintegrated.
The conversion of grindcore to its origins in accepted commercial rock did not sit well with the fanbase, and this album essentially slammed shut the career of this promising band.
Review: Carcass founded much of what grindcore would become by managing complexity and compositional coherence through simple riffs without compromising the extremity of their art; the subtle difference lurked almost entirely in the distinctiveness of their riffs and songs because of their compositional centering in melody.

The Reek of Putrefaction/Symphonies of Sickness LP defined Carcass as the premiere grindcore band in the world while most other bands in the genre disintegrated.
This disc is far from unlistenable, unlike the speed metal bands it follows, because it does not become thoroughly insipid or so thoroughly adulterated with commercialism as to reek of bad glam metal played quickly: it creates its own space among listeners and moves into it.
The raw passion and demented humor of previous albums has been replaced by a controlled professionalism that recognizes socially accepted form over function or content. The vocals have lost their crepitative quality, a sagging heaviness of eructation and enunciation that made veritable the lyrics: incarnations of decay.
