Taiga Forest preserves Synon investment with LANSA   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Like many other Synon users, Taiga was happy with Synon's model-based approach of development, but wanted to enhance their core systems with Web and Windows graphical applications.
LANSA offers an import or assimilation facility for file and field definitions, but Synon defined business rules and help text are not automatically copied.
With option one, all aspects of the Synon Data Dictionary, including condition values, status values, date field specifics, field level help text and file relationships, are migrated into the LANSA repository.

hibernate.org - synon2hbm - Generate Hibernate mappings for Synon models
Accessing a database defined in Synon from java programs using JDBC is very awkward, because all field names in database tabels generated by Synon have extremely non-intuitive generated names.
Also, Synon has a richer type system than the database, so field characteristics are lost when using JDBC.
synon2hbm extracts meta-data from a Synon repository and generate java classes representing the data types used in Synon and Hibernate mappings and -UserTypes, making it possible to use Hibernate to access the database using the same human-readable field names as when working directly in Synon.
