Artificial consciousness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artificial consciousness (AC), also known as machine consciousness (MC) or synthetic consciousness, is a field related to Artificial intelligence whose aim is to produce a rigorous and objective definition of consciousness, in a mathematical sense, and build a theory toward implementating it in a model or a cognitive architecture.
Because of the demand to be capable of achieving all these abilities, computers that appear conscious are a form of AC that may considered to be strong artificial intelligence, but this also depends on how strong AI is defined.
A conscious machine could even argue that because it is a machine, it cannot be conscious in the same way as a human being who had misunderstood the difference between symbolic argument and experience might argue this.

Accordingly, our scope is the broadest of any corporation on earth, dabbling in all realms of human endeavor and equipping humanity with the required synthetic intelligence to overcome our planet's most complex technological and sociological problems.
A radically new form of neural network based artificial intelligence has been conceived that in contrast to preceding forms of AI, builds itself and then enters into an intellectual bootstrapping process wherein it learns from its own mistakes and successes to create useful ideas and strategies.
Our unique and patented ability to 'grow' synthetic brain structures that are capable of creative thought may one day be recognized as the ultimate invention, one that can potentially invent all subsequent science, technology, and art.

 KSL-96-28
Combining visions from work in psychology, artificial intelligence and theater, we are studying the use of personality by intelligent, automated actors able to improvise their behavior in order to portray characters, and to interact with users in a multimedia environment.
We describe the model of a synthetic actor that takes into account those concepts to choose its behavior in a given context.
Personality is a set of psychological traits which influence an individual's behavior and give him or her a certain style.

With respect to Synthetic Personality, it is my belief that this is a natural outgrowth of investigations in Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Life, Intelligent Interface Design, Synthetic Characters, and Affective Computing.
A Synthetic Personality, on the other hand, is an attempt to create an autonomous entity that models the cognitive processes of human beings at core levels.
To accomplish this, a Synthetic Personality must reason, create, and emote.

The Blurred Horizon Press: The Hal Papers
Recent developments in the field of artificial intelligence (Al) (and synthetic emotions in particular) as well as social science research on human emotions are reviewed.
The problem of consciousness has received recent and widespread attention, much of it focused on the issue of whether synthetic consciousness is at all possible.
Most AI scientists have thus taken the approach that emotions are tangible and internally located "things" that can be synthetically replicated from a combination of digitized sensory input and programming protocol that mimics human brain MRI patterns.

 AiKnowledge: 'Curious' Aibos
More than 50 years ago Alan Turing, considered by many to be the father of computer science, speculated about the possibility of creating synthetic consciousness.
Progress has been made with AI (artificial intelligence) systems, which have typically used task-defined learning algorithms that enable programs to define what is good or bad about particular sets of information in relation to achieving preset goals, according to SCSL researcher Frederic Kaplan.
Their research won't lead to conscious robots soon, if ever, but it could help other fields such as child developmental psychology, they said during an open day in Tokyo.

Remarkably, this issue of the male procreation is little mentioned in discussions on artificial life and intelligence, mechanical wombs, robotics and cloning.
Myths embody ideas and ideas embody in myths: the sun, moon and stars, the lakes, rivers and oceans, statues and clay dolls, all are quickened into a lively animation by the need to visualise an unknown force or feature in familiar metaphors in order to better predict the future and improve our lot.
But the dream that began as a sacred transformation is overthrown and co-opted by a profane and male priesthood and could itself transmogrify into a nightmare of disembodiment and domination.
