Syros (Greek: Σύρος), or Siros or Syra is a Greek island in the Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea, 78 nautical miles south-east of Athens.
Ano Syros is the second town of the Island and was built by the Venetians at the beginning of the 13th century on the hill of San Georgio, north-west of Hermoupolis.
The DIOCESE OF SYRA (SYRENSIS).("The Pope's Island") was a Latin diocese, suffragan of Naxos, comprising the Island of Syros in the Aegean Sea.

Syros does not have any organized beaches (umbrellas, lawn chairs, bars, etc.), but such beaches get overcrowded and I am not interested in a bar scene when I go swimming.
Our typical schedule in Syros was to wake up around 9am, make a (Greek) coffee and drink it on our balcony as we perused the map and picked our beach of the day.
As usual we did a bit of Internet research before heading to Syros and we also had a few recommendations from the one couple that liked Syros, so perhaps it is not luck that we didn't have one bad meal in Syros.
