Veritas: Analyzing Systembolaget's Little Monopoly Analysis
In recent times though, Systembolaget itself has largely remained outside of the political debate, prefering instead to do the job with which it was entrusted and to do this job well.
Systembolaget has probably never been in as grave jeopardy as it is now.
In recent days, Systembolaget launched a campaign to attempt to bolster public support for the monopoly in a time-honored Swedish way: by treating Swedes like children.

Systembolaget - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To buy alcoholic beverages at Systembolaget you have to be 20 years of age or older.
Serving a market of 9 million Swedes, Systembolaget is the world's largest buyer of wine and spirits from producers around the world.
This has of course to do with the discounts that Systembolaget gets from its position in the global market, and also with the fact that Systembolaget has exactly the same markup (17% added) on every sold item.

Jon Worth Euroblog » Blog Archive » Attack is the best form of defence? Systembolaget [UPDATED, 23.11.2005]
If Systembolaget’s statistics (backed up by the WTO) are to be believed, Sweden has a very low level of alcohol related problems in comparison to the rest of the world - see these articles from EUObserver and the BBC, and hence the monopoly should be maintained.
So while Systembolaget gets its attack in first, in the form of letters and campaigns to the European Commission - see this brilliant website for example - I am left wondering what the rest of Europe could or should do about the problems of alcohol abuse.
Sweden’s state-run alcohol monopoly, Systembolaget, has risen in the ratings since being strongly criticised in 2003, when the index was compiled in the midst of a series of revelations about improprieties.
