Syunik region is situated 2100 m above sea level.
The region of Syunik is considered to be the southern gates of Armenia, one of the oldest and largest regions of Armenia.
The region occupies 6500 sq km and 80% of the territory is mountainous, scales and mountain ranges, surrounded by mountain-chains of Zangezur, Meghri and Syunik highland.

TATEV — nothing can be compared with the monastery of Tatev-that dominates over Syunik from on high.

They will also contribute to the creation of a public climate of transparency in environmental affairs and to the general democratization and good governance in the region.
The need for local Aarhus Centres in the regions was one of the recommendations of the OSCE-supported study of the perspectives of the socio-economic development of the Syunik region, conducted last year.
The Centres will also serve as a link between governmental authorities and non-governmental organizations (NGO) in the field of environmental policy-making, promote co-operation between all environmental stakeholders and their potential counterparts, such as national, foreign and international NGOs, as well as the business community, and serve as a basis for coalition-building among local environmental NGOs.

They are very hospitable, warm, kind, gentle and industrious people with really big hearts and spirits common to all mountaineers [don't take my word for it -- if you get a chance to visit Armenia go to the Syunik and see for yourself what Traditional Caucasian Hospitality means].
My grandfather -- Garnik [very ancient Armenian name] was a distinguished horseman and a highly educated man who at age of 28 became a respected professor and a years later a dean in a Polytechnic Institute of Yerevan.
