Water carried by Vistula was divided into three parts via: the Nogat, the Szkarpawa and the Gdansk Vistula.
A part of the Gdansk Vistula was cut by sailing sluice (flood-gate) to protect the river from sedimentation.
Further regulations continued and in 1889-1895 a 7-km cross-cut was made to direct Vistula waters straight to the Baltic Sea.
