		The Sztum castle remained in the hands of Teutonic Knights until 1468, when by the power of the Torun Treaty the town was incorporated into the Royal Prussia and for the many years to follow the edifice was a seat of high-ranking Polish military and administrative officials.
		It was in Sztum that the District Court for the Malbork province was seated.
		One of the principal activities of the Sztum Centre of Culture is to manage the International Centre of Youth Exchange, which is housed in the south wing of the castle.

	Tourism
		Sztum is located on the Gdansk-Malbork-Torun tourist route and on R-1 international cycle way, in the very centre of the area where so many Polish Gothic Castles preserved.
		Besides the former-Teutonic castle, a parish church is also worth of notice in Sztum since it constitutes one of the main elements of the scenery so much characteristic for the Old Sztum.
		Sztum lies on the tourist route known as Szlak Powisla (the Route of Powisle) which runs from Elblag through Malbork to Kwidzyn.

	History
		It was, however, in consequence of the Torun Peace Treaty that Sztum became a part of Royal Prussian in 1466.
		The Sztum administrative district was abolished in 1975 and the Sztum commune was incorporated into the EIblag voivodeship.
		Pursuant to the administrative reform of 1st January 1999, the city and commune of Sztum found itself in the Malbork administrative district that in turn constitutes a part of the south-eastern area of the Pomeranian voivodeship.
