Despite critical acclaim as a performer, the rootsy singer-songwriter T-Bone Burnett earned his greatest renown as a producer, leading recording sessions for acts ranging from Roy Orbison and Elvis Costello to Counting Crows and Sam Phillips.
Burnett resurfaced in 1980 with the acclaimed Truth Decay which, like all of his solo work, found its lyrical center in his spiritual concerns.

T-Bone Burnett began his musical activity in Fort Worth, where he played with local blues bands and eventually opened his own recording studio.
After a period spent on the road with Delaney and Bonnie, Burnett was invited to participate as a guitarist in Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue in 1975; when the tour ended, he and some of his fellow Revue musicians went on to create The Alpha Band, releasing a self-titled debut in 1977.
An eponymous fourth record was released in 1986, the same year that he produced The Turning by Christian singer Leslie Phillips; with Burnett's assistance, Phillips would subsequently establish a career under the name Sam Phillips before marrying her producer in 1989.

T-Bone (John) Burnett (born in Missouri but raised in Texas) was originally a sideman for Bob Dylan in 1973 and then a member of the Alpha Band, that released the albums Alpha Band (1977), Spark In The Dark (1977) and Statue Makers Of Hollywood (1978).
Burnett went from rocker to folksinger with the acoustic T-Bone Burnett (MCA, 1986), whose bluesy ballads (River Of Love, Oh No Darling) and tex-mex accents still echo Bob Dylan's mid-1970s style.
The results are mixed: Burnett has lost some of his innocence, and not gained enough depth.
