Kailasam ( 1884 - 1946) born July 29, 1884, was one of the foremost playwrights and writers of Kannada literature.
Born a Tamilian and educated in Great Britain, Kailasam on his return to India worked for the upliftment of Kannada.

Local singers regaled the audience with Kailasam Geetegalu and Ratnana Padagalu, a tribute to the great doyens of Kannada literature T.P. Kailasam (1855-1946) and G.P. Rajaratnam (1908-1979), whose portraits were prominently displayed.
However, the characters Kailasam created continue to be relevant even in the 21st Century, earning empathy with the common man. His moral message is invariably to set right unhealthy situations in society.
For those who have read Kailasam, his English plays such as Purpose and Karna and his ability to write poems like Kolike Ranga, a rejoinder to the English poem Constantinople, are a constant surprise.

Hutadalli Hutta, a play scripted by T P Kailasam and staged by ‘Antaranga at H N Kalakshetra is all about a couple exploiting the innocent through their tricks.
T P Kailasam who is rightly called the ‘Karnataka Prahasana Prapitamaha’ (the grand old man of farcical Kannada plays) has scripted several comedies like ‘Ammavara Ganda’, ‘Bandwalavillada Badai’, ‘Home reelu’ etc; which have had a huge following among connossieurs of Kannada theatre.
Excessive dialogue and chatter on the stage has reduced the impact of the scenes and sequences to a great deal, but the importance Kailasam attaches to the role of servant Bora is indeed remarkable, specially when we take into consideration the fact that the play is over six decades old.
