TF 38 came into existence in August 1943, built around Saratoga (CV-3), and under the command of Rear Admiral Frederic Sherman.
TF 58 was created under the command of Marc Mitscher, on 6 January 1944.
It became TF 58 again on 26 January 1945 under Admiral Raymond Spruance, then back to TF 38 under Halsey on 25 May 1945, remaining so until the end of the war.

 GIANT TF P-51 G-38 or G-45
i am building a GIANT TF P-51 its going to be covered in monocote to keep it lite,i was also wondering if balance is a factor,i would rather have useful weight than dead weight.i was hoping for some imput on what engine to install a G-38 or G-45!
I haven't flown one, but I saw the TF 1/5 scale ARF fly with a G45 and it was not overpowered.
Originally I had planned to use a Fuji 50 in my TF Mustang ARF but that big muffler would not do, I settled on a ZDZ 40RV-L. this lightweight 40cc (2.4ci) powerplant has a side exhaust and a rear intake.

I believed that the Center Force had been so heavily damaged in the Sibuyan Sea that it could no longer be considered a serious menace to Seventh Fleet.
