 | | A TFR -- Temporary Flight Restriction -- is a geographic area that is temporarily off-limits to pilots and their planes. |
 | | For example, if there is a forest fire, a TFR may be created to keep out sightseeing planes, curious pilots, news helicopters or just pilots that happen to be passing nearby, but they certainly don't want to stop the fire-fighting aircraft from flying in and dumping their water/chemical cocktails on the fire! |
 | | The newest and silliest TFR is the "moving TFR" that creates a no-fly area of about 10 miles wherever the president is, in a car, bus, train or plane. |
